You will need to trace it to the switch and then the power to the motor. check to see if the capacitor is faulty and is not initialising the motor. if so change the capacitor to set things right.
It can be also a failure of the brushes of the motor or the motor itself.
So use a multimeter to trace the power line to the motor and the problem will be found.

Dyson upright vacuum with kinked cord kept stopping. There was a loud bang and smoke and the vacuum stopped. Has the motor blown up, or can it be repaired?

This happens a lot the supply cable bending or damaged shorts out causing smoke and a bang if fitted with or backed up with a high amperage fuse .
check length of supply cable if you find damage/ burning smell,
either replace cable, or you could fit a inline rubber socket and plug by cutting out damaged part of cable and fitting female part of plug first into supply cable 1. then on the vacuum side of cable fit the male part of plug 2 . supply 1. -----o o----------2.--- vac
using insulation tape if you like you can tape plug and socket together to stop it pulling apart, normally cable damage will not damage the vacuum cleaner. and fit the correct fuse rating for the machine 1000 watts at 240v divide 240 into 1000 =4.166 amps
so with a 1000 w load you do not need a 13 a fuse fitted 6 amp fuse should be ok. or go online and see what is recommended re fuse size for appliance ,

My dyson dc14 when you push the start button doesnt turn on? could the button need replaced

The most likely fault is a break in the cable near the point where it enters the machine, if cable is ok it could be the switch, or it could be a fuse in the plug if you have fused plugs. Get someone to check the cable, often the broken part can be removed, and you end up with a slightly shorter cable by about 20cm

I was using the Dyson, turned off to empty tank, will not turn on again, I have checked outlet it is ok. Does it have some kind of safety if it gets to hot. Thanks

hi.
there is a thermal fuse built into the motor of all dysons that will cut the power if the motor gets too hot.
when the motor cools down again, the fuse will normally reset itself.

try the hoover again after a few hours and see if it works again.
also change the fuse in the plug to check that that has not blown

Our upright Dyson has just stopped working. No

There are four possibilities:
1) If in a country that has a fused plug, the fuse in the plug (unlikely). 2) The switch (unlikely). 3) A break inside the cable that you cannot see (quite likely). 3) The motor is shot and needs replacing (very likely).

Dyson DC07 will not turn on

If the fuse in the plug is good, then this could be a faulty cable or switch, but could also be a faulty motor.
The motor also has a built in over-current protection device which normally automatically resets itself, but if the motor has a serious fault or the over-current device itself is faulty then this could be the cause.
Both the switch and motor are available quite cheaply on eBay2_bing.gif, but fitting new ones requires good DIY skills (especially the motor), and some unusual tools (Torx drivers2_bing.gif).
Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com which has some great info on repairing your machine, but if you dont feel you can repair it yourself, time to call a vacuum repairer or the Dyson helpline

My Dyson Animal DC07 will not turn on. Nothing happens when plugged in and the switch depresses

The Dyson cords are known to go bad, test the cord and see if there is voltage. If this is too mechanical for you, take the vacuum to your nearest vacuum repair shop
