Question about Dell Studio 1537 Laptop

1 Answer

Dell Studio 1537 will not boot During the last few months my laptop was acting weird and freezing quite often. Yesterday, it froze again so I shut it down manually (by pushing start up/shut down button for five seconds). When I tried to power it up again I first got the Dell-logo, so far so good. Then Windows started loading, but after a mighty long time, I got a screen that Windows couldn't load, and if I wanted to repair. I selected repair, got a black screen for a few seconds, and then the same screen again asking me if I wanted to repair. So I'm stuck in an infinite loop with this screen. Things I've tried so far: 1. Booting from the Dell CD that came with my laptop. No good, I never get to the menu. My computer starts booting from the CD, I get the screen where it says 'Windows is loading files' and the white bar. When the bar is full, I get the same green loading bar that I always get when Windows is loading, and then I'm back at the 'Windows can't load ...' screen. From there I'm stuck in the infinite loop again. 2. Resetting my BIOS. I first tried restoring it to factory settings by selecting this option in the BIOS itself. That didn't change anything. I then went on to reset it by resetting the CMOS (by removing the battery for ten minutes). After start-up, I got a message saying that the default settings of the CMOS were restored. But when I tried loading Windows, I got stuck in the infinite loop again. Luckily, I was able to boot Knoppix from an old CD I had lying around (from my Linux-tinkering days) and back-up all important files I have on my hard disc to my external HDD. But I have no idea what to do next. Would I be able to try something else, or do I have to format the C-drive. And in that case, can I reinstall Windows (Vista Home Premium) from the Dell-CD? If more information is needed, I'll be happy to answer any additional questions. Thanks in advance, hope someone has a good idea.

My burner won't burn in my dell Studio 1537

Inside the DVD drive is a laser optical eye. This eye get's dirty.

Suggest remove ALL power, then open DVD drive tray. Use a can of compressed air for computers to clean, and aim down towards the bottom of the tray.
(Remove AC adapter {Charger}, and Battery)

Disk cleaners have the tendency to wipe the 'gunk' off, then wipe it back on.

Also make sure you still have burner software. Nothing like going to use the DVD burner one day, only to find the Nero burner software was just a trial.

It's FREE, and NOT a trial.

Plus a DVD drive is mechanical. Wears out over time. Has a 'Life Cycle'.

Just an example. You may find a better price from another reputable dealer.

The DVD drive is held in with ONE screw,

Dell STUDIO 1537 black screen on first boot up ??

The inverter maybe faulty, it supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp and would cause the screen to be black.
Since it was just repaired, I suggest you return it to Dell to have it repaired under warranty.

Hardware failure, most likely in the motherboard. Take the laptop to a repair shop for an in-depth testing. Beware, the repair will be expensive.
