It is not a must that you fit it in a housing, as it actually stands on the floor, but it looks much better fitted into a purpose built cabinet.
If it were a built in one, then you would have to have proper built in unit for it to fit in.

Defy slimline eyelevel oven installed in cupboard.

Assuming it is an electric built in or built under oven, these are commonly fitted into a dedicated cupboard (oven housing) that matches the other kitchen units and typically little or no facility for ventilation is provided.
Electric ovens are usually so well insulated and covered with reflective foil the need for ventilation is minimal, especially when a standard size oven is fitted into the correct standard sized housing as it will provide an air-space of an inch or more all around.

It can be expected the housing near the top of the oven will become warm after a while and the shelf above likely to become warm enough to soften a candle but if it gets hot enough to actually melt a candle I think that is rather too hot. The addition of additional insulation and reflective material should improve matters greatly.

I suggest you approach the guy who fitted the oven if it was professionally fitted. It would have been his responsibility to only fit a suitable appliance and if additional ventilation was required he should have advised you.

I believe I have seen some oven housings with a slim grille over the oven and it is probable there would have also been a slot cut at the rear and perhaps a short piece of trunking to carry warm air away from the space directly above the oven.

there may not be a plug in for this unit as most ovens are hard wired and will require an electrician to disconnect safely

Oven door will not open

This unit may have a door lock built in to the control unit lockout. To release it you may have to turn off the oven circuit breaker in your house circuit box. If not, it is just jammed and you will need to wobble it free.

My AEG competence oven is making a loud buzzing noise coming from the top fan? The food tonight was either burnt or under cooked? The buzzing is also loud when switched off/cooling down? Any ideas please.

I would suspect that the problem is caused by the external cooling fan located under the outside cooker cabinet housing, which continues to operate as the oven is cooling down if it is built in, you will have to remove it from the oven housing to access the fan

Pilot not sparking , where is the pilot light

That all depends on the make and model of cooker.

On many models it's a single 1.5v AA battery and is somewhere under the lower front edge of the unit. If it's a cooker/range you can access it by pulling the cooker forward, tipping it back and supporting it. Built in ovens (and hobs) usually have mains-power and supply the igniter circuit via a transformer, but on the few built in ovens without mains power the battery is usually at the bottom of the unit close to the front. Depending on the design either the entire oven has to be partially withdrawn from the housing or there is often a removable air inlet panel or grille with the battery holder just behind.

Note that because of the location, the battery holder can be hard to find due to being encased in the inevitable gunge and muck which builds up in these areas, so you may want to allow extra time to clean most of this off.

Replacement for built in oven/microwave

Hello tippett_631

Welcome to fixya,

You said, ,
22 years ago you built the house you are currently living in. The above oven/microwave oven was built in. You are interested in replacing this unit with a new unit but it must be the same size. ? by the way i You would be happy with a double oven versus the microwave/oven duo. You have measured across the front of the unit and it only measures 26" across. Any assistance you could give us would be greatly appreciated.

I can help you!
The front is 26 inches.
And how high is it from the top to bottom?
Also when I sell a wall oven I always send out the installer to check the hole or cutout size.
Most of the time no wall oven fits with out at least one cut!
Do you have any room to cut a little on all sides?
What is your model number now. And what color do you want now??
I will send you some GE wall oven models and sizes so you can check your self if it will fit. usually they have to cut at least one side to fit it in the old hole!
