I bought a Russell Hobbs Edinburgh kettle RHK2 a month ago (Aug 2010) and found that about a third of the time it did not switch off when boiled - just kept on boiling. So after 3 weeks I took it back to the shop, got another kettle (same model) and in the next few days found it does the same thing! I have tried making sure the kettle base and the boiling plate it sits on are perfectly dry, don't disturb the kettle after I've pressed the boil switch down, but it still occasionally does not switch off when boiled.

The thermostat is non adjustable and must be replaced. Unless under warranty still, it's cheaper to replace the kettle.

I think you would only solve this problem by cleaning the thermostat contacts, or replacing the thermostat which wouldn't be worthwhile as it's likely to be cheaper to buy a new kettle.
Besides this , just getting into the kettle needs special 3 tongue screwdriver and then a certain technique to open it up without damaging the plastic parts. Im'e afraid its a throw-away world now and its not good .

SOURCE: I bought the Russell Hobbs Whisper Kettle

Have you tried descaling the kettle? When scale builds up over the whisper quiet element, it reduces the effectiveness, and the kettle becomes noisy. Try 1 tablespoon of citric acid, fill the kettle to the max line, boil the kettle then leave for 10 minutes. Rinse and repeat if necessary.

You will need to replace the heating element on the kettle. Here is a link to order the part.

Can anyone tell me where I can obtain a Switch Assembly for a Russell Hobbs Kettle model 3100/1/2

It appears that most parts are obsolete. You may have to just grow flowers in it as a keepsake.

I have a Russell Hobbs whisper quiet kettle that used to be very quiet and now is extremely loud when boiling. How can I fix this?

I descaled my kettle because it needed to be done (it was quiet before I descaled). However, it has become noisy since I descaled. Any suggestions, most welcome?

I bought the Russell Hobbs Whisper Kettle expecting it to boil quietly. Wrong. It is quite the opposite. Not sure if I can take it back due to "false advertising"??

I want to buy a replacement KETTLE only, for my black, RH Quick 2 Boil Kettle, any suggestions. Nick

I would contact Russel Hobbs and see if they actually sell them separately. When you are online to them there should be available, a list of retailers that stock the item you want http://www.amazon.co.uk/Russell-Hobbs-15198-Quick-2-Boil-Kettle/dp/B003DNSQPC

I see what you mean, it is part of a set. I bought one, in dark grey, and I am sure they sold one in black, from Wilkinsons. It was Quick Boil Kettle only, on a standard connector stand. TJ Hughes also stock them!

Hope that helps.

I have an Edinburgh (I think) kettle which I have been very happy with, but now the switch will not stay down, occasionally I make connection. What can be done?

The switch is operated on what is called a thermocouple - the most lightly problem is lime scale. Get some limescale remover from your local hardware. or you can use spirit vinegar and boil the kettle a couple of times. Give it a really good clean afterward or your coffee will taste awful! Good luck.
