All friges or units like this one are auto defrost . the defrost system on most of todays units are controled by aditive defrost systems . but the do fail . generaly the frig will defrost every 8 hr's of comp run time . . this could be every 8 hrs or every 16 . just depends on how hot it is and how often you get in frig . . mm

One or more defrost components have failed. They are defrost timer or control board depending on model, defrost heater, and defrost thermostat

What is best way to defrost hotpoint future rf175b

The model number you gave is not valid. To defrost a fridge you have two options.
Is this a manual defrost? If so boil pot of water and set on rack inside the freezer. You will have to remove big chunks of ice.
Auto defrost fridges. Option 1- Unplug fridge open doors and leave for 24-48 hrs. A bit messy with this so have towels around fridge to soak up water.Option 2- Unplug fridge remove access panel on back wall inside freezer. Take hair dryer and melt all the ice inside on the coils. If you have an ice block you have a problem replace bi metal/efrost thermistat. Heater and/or defrost timer may also be out.
If you have an Ice block on auto defrost models always change the bi metal because they get warped usually inside and ruin them. Test heat with continuity tester and defrost timer by manually advanceing just before shutdown time and letting run through cycle. Should stay in defrost between 8 and 30 minutes.

Fan in freezer is making a real bad sound...... griding like it may be struggling to to stay running

This can be caused by frost accumulation on or aroundthe freezer fan Icing . And due to this no cooling will be in fridge compartment.
Unplug power and . defrost it. And after some times, switch on fridge.
This is due to auto defrost switch malfunction. keep temp setting at 5 degree and check auto defrost (if your fridge having that option) is working. If not you have to replace PCB. Thanks.

Hi there.I have an Amana Side by Side Refridgerator. We are having a problem with the fridge side not cooling enough. The Freezer side is working well.Have you any tips on how to fix it myself ?Cheers.

Check fan which blows cool to fridge compartment is working. Check fridge is defrosted automatically. If not do it manually and check, there will be cooling in fridge compartment. Over frosting will cover up the fan throw behind the freezer. If not auto defrost works, switch off and restart after 5 minutes. Still auto defrost problem, do it manually or replace board.

Ice build up in refrigerator. Not cooling

Fault in the auto defrost section. shut off the fridge and defrost , check onthe thermostat , faulty lines wire breaks due to frost. if not trace the wires to the auto defrost timer. check the heater continuity/resistance. When the fridge is started back check the timer and see if the auto defrost works. If not check thermostat and the timerr contacts or if it is running. if not replace.
