My sink fills quarter the way with water when my washing machine is working, please help as i am a computer repair person not a plumber, thanks.

would seem to me that your waste pipe from your sink,or at least partly.so when the waste water is being pumped out into the waste pipe it is too much for the partly blocked pipe so it overflows bacj up the sink.try the good old plunger on the plughole, but idealy you should take your ubend apart and clean it out.you also get strong solutions for dissolving grease and the likes that you pour down the plug hole

Water from the sink fills up the dish washer

I had a similar problem with a washing machine, until I replumbed my waste pipes. My Washing Machine waste pipe was attached to the down pipe just under the sink bowl. I found that the U bend trap was too high and the water level in the U-bend was at the same level as the Washing machine waste pipe was attached. So we has syphoning back into the washing machine. I moved the U bend trap down by 3 inches 7 cm, so now the water leaves the washing machine falls the 3 inches to the water level of the U bend. We now have no more syphoning back into the washing machine.

After the last wash yesterday the tub was dry. This morning there is water in the bottom of the washer tub.

2 possibilitiies here.
1- the water inlet valve/s are leaking past the seal as the the washer is stood, remedy, replace the valve/s.
2 If fhe outlet pie is connected toi the sink waste, then water could be syphoning back from the sink into the washer.
Remedy, lift the outlet hose up higher than the bottom of the sink waste outlet.

How do I install a second hand waher/dryer with limited piping?

1 yes all standard.2 Yes you can get a Y piece. 3 no you will only use water from cold. But you can solve that by going to a good hardware store or B.Q and gettein a self cutting tap for washing machines. You can fit this in just minutes, and do not even need to turn off the water supply. just make sure there is a clean straight piece of pipe to fit it to. 4 yes fit waste pipe to u bend under sink.

After completing a washing cycle the machine fills up with water

It is either sticking inlet valve/s, or water could be syphoning back into washer from the sink, if the outlet hose of the washer is joined into the sink waste.
If it is joined into sink waste, try raising the hose higher.
To elminate the inlet valve/s turn off the supply to the washer, leave overnight, and if no water has appeared, then it is the valve/s
Only solution is to replace.

Thankyou.

Hi, I'm looking for help with my hotpoint wmf740 washing machine.

A couple of possibilities here.
It could be a sticking water inlet valve, or water syphoning back into washer if the drain outlet hose is joined into the sink waste outlet.

To check which it is, turn off the water supply to the washer and leave for a day or two, if no water comes in, then it is a sticking inlet valve which will have to be replaced.
If water still comes in after turning it off to the washer, then it is the waste outlet pipe that will need to be lifted up higher to prevent water coming back into washer from sink waste.
Please rate my solution.
Thankyou.

Sitting water in washing machine (not immediately after use)

if it is dirty water then it sounds like it's coming from the sink if washing machine waste is plumbed to the sink make sure washing machine waste pipe is higher than the sink waste outlet if it is clean water then a new water valve is what's needed

Smelly drum

run a load with no clothes, hot water and a gallon or two of bleach and less then 1 drop, very small amount of dish detergent. the dish detergent is used as  surfactant (makes the bleach stick to the interior walls)
run an extra rinse cycle to make sure you get all the bleach out before putting clothes in.

Drum filling up with water

There are 2 possible problems here. 1. If your waste pipe is connect under the sink and uses the sinks waste as a drain it could be that water from the sink (or dishwasher if also fitted) is entering the machine via the waste. This can be cured by ensuring that the washing machine waste hose is hooked up higher than the connection under the sink. 2. It could be that the washing machine inlet valve need replacing. After time, or if bits of dirt enter them they can let water seep through. This is easily identified by turning off the water supply where the hoses are connected to. If the machine fills up then you know it is entering via the waste hose - if it doesn't then you know its one of the valves. If it is a valve they are available from us at www.ransomspares.co.uk
