Yea there are high gain antennas. Here are some on a site i would recommend

http://www.ebuyer.com/cat/Wireless/subcat/Wireless-Antennas-&-Accessories

The more you spend the more purchase you will get. Go for one with a high dBi. Also be aware that you may want an omni-directional one if you want the signal to be boosted in all areas

Cant get wifi unless I am a couple of inches from router. All other wifi devices work perfectly. I even downloaded the latest driver directly from Intel and problem still exists.

Having a wireless Internet signal in your home allows multiple devices to use the same Internet connection without having to run lengths of Ethernet cable to each device. Given that the wireless network is transmitted over the air, the consistency of your Internet connection depends on the strength of the wireless signal. If wireless signal strength is not strong enough to give you a consistent Internet connection, there are a few simple steps for finding the problem and improving your signal strength.

Reset all devices. The majority of Internet issues, including poor wireless signal strength, are very often solved by a simple power cycle of all the devices in the network. Locate the power cords of both your modem and your wireless router and remove them (if you use a modem/router combination, simply unplug the power to that device). Leave them unplugged for a full 30 seconds, plug them back in and restart your computer. When your computer fully reboots, check your wireless signal strength to see if it has improved. If it has not, further troubleshooting is required. Move your computer closer to your router, or your router closer to your computer. Wireless routers do not have unlimited range. One reason your computer may be getting a weak signal strength from your wireless network could be because your computer is simply outside of the router's range. Typically, ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will install your modem in one specific location in the house and the modem will not work at other locations, so moving the modem or modem/router combination may not be a possibility. If this is the case, you may need to move the computer to a location that is within the range of the wireless router's broadcast. If you still get poor signal strength, your router may be experiencing a malfunction. Contact the technical support department of your router manufacturer. Router malfunctions often are not the result of a bad or broken router, but of something much simpler, such as the router's needing a firmware upgrade or an incorrect setting on the router's internal setup. If your router manufacturer is unable to improve your wireless signal strength, it may be time to purchase a new router. Purchase a new router. Wireless routers are priced in part based on how widely their wireless signal broadcasts (in other words, the more expensive the router you buy, the larger a wireless signal the router will broadcast). Included in the packaging of each wireless router is the approximated range, in square footage, of that router's wireless network. A good rule of thumb is to know the square footage of your house and buy a router that can accommodate that square footage. That way, as long as the router is functioning properly, you will have strong wireless signal strength throughout your entire home.

Internet connection lost every 30 minutes

CONTINUAL DISCONNECTION OF WIRELESS CONNECTION
There are a few things thatcan cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router.1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move thewireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locatethe wireless router higher up.2. Have you secured yourwireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change thedefault password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID,and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC addressfiltering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s toconnect to your wireless router.3. You could be gettinginterference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers andcomputers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, betterstill connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted PowerSupply). 4. Check the channels ofthe wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcastchannel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currentlyused but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interferencewith your wireless router from other wireless routers and accesspoints in your area.

My wireless adapter says i have a good connection, but when I go to play games online my signal strength changes so much it makes the game glitch

Whats going on is that your signal strength from the router is good but when playing a game the green bars that you see are not that of the signal strength but that of the internet Speed. Seems the signal is there but the internet speed is not I would restart modem and router see if this helps boost speed you can always check speeds at speedtest.net to be sure you are getting what you are paying for.

The issue here may not be the laptop but the router strength of it's wireless radio. Do you have another laptop or a freind who can come over and test his connection? The DV series laptops have pretty decent antennae and wireless cards. Try to update the drivers for the WLAN card, make sure the antennae leads have a good secure fit at the ends where they attach to the card. If the router is a couple to several years old, it may need the firmware updated.

Im just trying to get wifi and interet but i cant get a access point in range wat do i do

Hi :)

In order to obtain wireless internet you need the following

1) Wireless Access Point.
2) A device capable of getting these signals

this is a common mistake when you first obtain wifi. Although the signal is wireless it still has to come from somewhere. Wifi is generally a short range system (I say generally because there is that new "Internet Stick" thing that Rogers? is renting and it is the same wifi you would have @ home but its distributed accross thier towers so you have internet most of the time from anywhere). You still need ot go and get Internet Service into your home, then distribute that signal wirelessly accross the house (in reallity its more than the house the point is the signal is being distributed from somewhere nearby) VIA Wireless Router. Even if you could find an Access Point 90% chances that the system is locked and needs a pw so that people cant just steal another persons signal and bog them down and pay for their internet basically.

Now. If that option isnt suitable for now you can obtain Free Wifi Signal from a number of places

1) Free WiFi is offered @ most public/government buildings (ie Library, Courthouse, Registries, etc etc)

2) Appartment buildings and Condoes are always a good place to check for an unprotected network to piggy back off (this isnt as shady as it sounds if its temporary, infact WiFi systems have backups in them that auto detect and connect to unprotected networks should yours lose signal for any reason)

Note Wi Fi systems signal strength and speed are affected by a couple factors

1) The strength of the incoming internet signal (signal is reduced the longer it flows in the lines to get to you or your pc) (IE long cords between wall and modem or device etc etc etc) Signal strength is also dependant on what you purchase/pay monthly of course (IE DSL Dial Up Or Cable)

2) the quality (usually depends on the price of the unit) of the Router you purchase and its ability to distribute that signal at distance

3) The Wireless Adaptor the device has and its range (depends on price and quality of that unit)

4) Distance from the router is a given but from what ive learned Copper Piping and Copper wires in houses / condos/ apartments tend to block signal strength.

Could be a vista compatibility problem.
check Linksys website for updated driver and or connection manager.

check that you still have permission in firewall.

remove the software of the usb wireless adapter, reboot ,then re install.

just a couple of thoughts
good luck
