Sounds like the pump is jammed, the humming is probably from the pump motor.

Just hums won t start

Their is 2 screens towards the back right that are plugged up. . You can take out 2 screws out and clean them up. Or the fill level adjustment in the front left isn't working right. It also can be fixed with 2 screws and cleaned.

Whirlpool Dishwasher will fill water then stops

If it fills with water properly then stops, and especially if there is a humming noise, it is possible that

- motor start capacitor has failed
- drive belt has slipped or snapped
- belt tensioner spring has broken

Dishwasher starts then pauses and drains.

Fixed! I had the issue where the cycle would start, the KUDS30IXBL8 would hum 4-5 times and then drain. Plastic folk pieces jammed in the disposer. These instructions took a few minutes (only 5 screws and a couple clips) to figure out how to take it apart, and it only took 60 seconds to put back together. Sounds like the motor is stuck. If your careful you can unplug the dishwasher or turn the breaker off, take the bottom panel off and reach in with your finger and spin the motor assembly.

Not filling with water just making humming noise

You did not mention the make or model of machine. Usually if machine is humming, it is coming from either a fill or drain solenoid or a motor that is bad and will not start.

Dishwasher starts to fill then just hums

Sounds like a motor problem. Behind the chopper is an access to the impeller, try turning the impeller or the chopper blade and see if the motor will rotate. If it doesn't, then something is stuck preventing the motor from running.
