Question about Culligan Under Sink Water Filter

1 Answer

Just replaced particulate, activated carbon and polishing filters. Turned water supply back on, made sure polishing filter in properly as to flow. Allowed about three hours to fill tank. When I turned on the tap it ran for approximate 30 seconds with a decent flow and THEN dropped to drips. What went wrong?

Is this an RO system or just filtration? If so, does the membrane need replacing and/or is the GPD capacity on the membrane compatible with the system?
Another thing to look at...is your flow rate this low at a constant rate (perhaps taking 3 hours to accumulate 30 secs worth of water)? What are the micron ratings of the filters you are using? If they are too low or at the submicron level, this could massively reduce flow.
One more thing...you're only using one tank right? Because throwing a couple inline with each other with different pressures and capacities will also do this...

I own an old Culligan RO system with a particulate filter, carbon filter, RO filter and post carbon filter all connected by tubes in an open environment. Replaced filters and tank is only 3-4 years old...

It is quite common to loose air pressure in the RO over time. At times the tank will be full of water but will not have enough air pressure to push water out. Take the tank of drain as much water as possible, for 3 gallon tank bring pressure in tank to 7psi, for 10 gallon tank pressure should be 10psi.

Just rented a home in the country the water smells like rotten eggs

Hydrogen Sulfide Gas can occur in wells, and gives the water a characteristic "rotten egg" taste or odor.

  • Install an activated carbon filter. This option is only effective for low hydrogen sulfide levels, The gas is trapped by the carbon filter is saturated.
  • Install an oxidizing filter, such as a "manganese greensand" filter. Manganese greensand filters are often used to treat iron problems in water. The device consists of manganese greensand media, which is sand coated with manganese dioxide. The hydrogen sulfide gas in the water is changed to tiny particles of sulfur as it passes through the filter. The filter must be periodically regenerated, using potassium permanganate, before the capacity of the greensand is exhausted.
  • Install an oxidation-filtration system. These systems utilize a chemical feed pump to inject an oxidizing chemical, such as chlorine, into the water supply line prior to a storage or mixing tank. When sufficient contact time is allowed, the oxidizing chemical changes the hydrogen sulfide to sulfur, which is then removed by a particulate filter, such as a manganese greensand filter.

Why double filter on Maytag Microwave

If your range hood or microwave recirculates back in to the room.

Both filters are required. The mesh filter catches the grease & air particulate. The carbon filter should be changed regularly www.HoodFilterFactory.com ( avoid range fires that spread quickly) & clears the recirculated air from smoke, odors, & airborne particulate.

With yours venting to the outside, you ONLY need the mesh filter. These filters should be cleaned regularly ( Avoid mentioned hazard) & should be replaced when you can no longer clean them enough to see through them when holding up to the light.

    Good Luck

No hot water from bosch tankless heater

    1. If the display is blank, verify power to electrical outlet. (120VAC/60Hz properly grounded circuit required). Verify that the heater on/off switch is in the on (I) position.
    2. Verify the fuses in the control unit are good.To access fuses, the control unit must be removed. See BULLETIN TWH-G2-24 Two spare fuses are located inside lower access panel of control unit.
    3. Make sure cold water inlet connection is plumbed to the right side of heater when facing unit.
    4. A minimum of 0.8 gallons per minute (GPM) (3 l/m) is required to activate the heater. A quart container should fill in 20 seconds or less to activate heater.
    5. Clean inlet filter screen per chapter 5.2. of the installation manual.
    6. Inspect the water path for obstructions. Make sure all showerheads, faucet aerators and whole house filters are clear of debris.
    7. The heater activates when the water flow through the unit is at or above the required minimum of 0.8 GPM (3 l/m). A crossover creates back pressure on the water flowing through the heater. Therefore, a higher flow rate than normal is needed to force the heater to activate. To check for a plumbing crossover, shut off the cold water supply feed to the water heater. Then open all of the hot water taps served by the heater. Wait 10 minutes and check for water flow at taps. There should be no water flowing. Any continuous flow of water indicates a crossover is present and must be corrected. Consult a professional plumber for help in correcting a crossover. Failing single lever faucets and mixing valves are common causes of plumbing crossovers.
    8. With the ON/OFF switch turned to OFF (O) position and the power supply cord unplugged, remove theunit's front cover (See Page 5. Fig 3 of installation manual). Check wire connections between the water valve, control unit and electrode set. See chapter 9.2 of installation manual for location of these parts.

HOw to replace Culligan water filters

    For a 4-Stage system:
    1. Open the housing caps of the components that house both the sediment and carbon filters (you may need a residential spanner wrench). Put each filter into its proper housing and tighten housing caps MANUALLY. Do not use wrench.
    2. Repeat process with membrane housing and membrane (if membrane needs replacing).
    3. Remove inline polishing filter by disconnecting tubing at both ends. Replace with new inline filter and reconnect tubing.

Our Bosch icemaker was replaced along with the filter that comes with the unit, but we have noticed a flaky, maybe greasy particles and residue floating in the glass after the ice has fully melted. We have...

    Hello. Woobie here.

A new filter contains activated carbon, and, if your particles are dark, this is probably the problem. A new cartridge will have some loose material in it, and this flushes on through to the dispenser(s). The fix can be effected two ways: If the filter is new, remove it and dunk it in a pot of water several times, draining it between dunkings. This decants the loose materials and will alleviate the particulates. If the filter has been in a while, tha particulates will have mostly moved on through the system (and into your system!). Activated carbon is not harmful. If you fall somewhere in between the lengths described, decanting the filter may still provide some relief, again, depending on how long it has been in service. As a general rule, always dunk and decant a new filter prior to installation to keep the particulates to a minimum.
    Best regards,

I HAVE A RO WATER FILTRATION MY PROBLEM IS I CANNOT GET WATER FLOW TO THE WATER STORAGE TANK ALSO I JUST CHANGED THE MEMBRANE FILTER

There may be several causes for this. Here is a list of things to look for.
    1. If an activated carbon filter was installed many times carbon fines will plug up the head of the RO housing. Pull the filters out and flush the whole assembly with NO filters in it.
    2. The capillary tube (which puts back pressure on the membrane to create water) may be worn out and all the water will run to the drain. Replace capillary tube
    3. The automatic shutoff may not be opening to allow for water flow.
    4. Shut the water off at RO tank and take the line off from RO filters to see if any water is flowing from housings.
    5. The RO tank may also need air. If the air charge is low in tank (7 psi for 3 gal tank) no water can be forced from the tank.
    6. If the RO is fed by a piercing valve make sure their is water coming from it.
    7. Depending on what type of RO it is their may be a flow restrictor in head of membrane housing that can get plugged also.
I hope these tips may help you,

I changed the water filter and now the water dispensers water pressure is very slow

    Hello,

Water filters contain activated carbon and this can plug up upon initial usage. Remove the filter, and drain from cartridge. Refill and drain several times. If this is the issue, you will see a little black particulate at first, and it will get better. When it clears, reinstall the filter.

We replaced the filters and the water will not flow

If one of the filters you replaced was an Activated Carbon frequently carbon fines will get washed from it and plug up the filter housing. Remove the filter install housing and flush system thoroughly before installing filter again. If the feed valve is a piercing valve these will fail also and may need to be replaced.
