Limited connectivity
If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you LAN connection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptop probably did not get an IP address from the router.

MY compaq laptop will connect to a wireless network but when I connect to the Uni netwrk via the cable my computer indicates there is MAC address and won't work. Any ideas please, I have tried other cables...

Calm down, try this step. do you want to connect your laptop to cable network? if yes, then click on LAN icon on your task bar or you click on "My Network Places" once it open, click on view my network connections, there you see Local Area Connection which is your LAN device. Right click and point to Properties. There you see Options like Client for Microsoft Network, File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, Qos Packet Schedule, and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then on Properties. Now you see options like "Obtain an IP address automatically and Use the following IP address. Click the second option which is "Use the following IP address" input the ip address like follows. IP address:, Subnet Mask:, Default gateway is the ip address of your network, then input it there and the same thing with Preferred DNS server:also input the ip address of your network. Finally click on OK and wait a moment for the system to apply the settings. After that, you click on OK. Thanks and Goodluck..........

Intrnet explorer not working

u should have told the problem more broadly.
because i don't know the type of error

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

Cannot find server or DNS Error.

Whenever u get this it's almost always an IP address problem. Try renewing your ip address.
1. Click the Start menu button on the Windows taskbar.
2. Click Run... on this menu.
3. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'cmd' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears. A command prompt window appears on the screen.
4. Type 'ipconfig' (without the quotes) to view the status of the computer's IP address(es).
5. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'ipconfig /release' to let go of the address.
6. Type 'ipconfig /renew' to obtain a new IP address (whether or not the computer is holding a current address).

See it this doesn't fix your problem.

I have a IP address 169 problem and can't connect to internet. Any suggestions? I have tried to release and renew the IP address but it doesn't change anything. I have also tried using 3 different routers...

hi there, reinstall your Lan card driver. possible cause of this is that your lan card is having a hard time acquiring ip address from your router. usually reinstalling the driver will resolved the issue. if same thing happens after driver reinstallation you need to change your lan card.

No wireless

you have to renew the ip address.the easiest way to do this is restart the computer then try entering your net key.ALSO if you use a standard ethernet cable the computer may be trying to connect to the internet through that.what you want to do is disable the LAN connection in your network connections window and right click on the wireless connection icon and click REPAIR,this will renew your IP address also.If you do not know how to get to these settings go to START/ CONTROL PANEL/NETWORK CONNECTIONS then right click on your wireless connection then click repair. While your in that same window you can right click the LAN connection and disable it.To enable it simply right click the icon again and click enable.
