Check spark plug and ensure choke is set correctly. Choke all the way out to start, then push back in. Make sure gear selector is in neutral and blade not engaged too.

Sounds like you may have a safety switch shutting down the PTO. Check them all as there may be a loose connection.

The easiest way is to not remove the tank. Buy a can of chem tool the liquid, not spray.Drain gas out of tank, pour can in tank, let sit for 15minutes,then drain, should clean it out good.

SOURCE: blade belt diagram for John Deere LX178 Riding

Remember the belt rule, V of the belt goes in V pulleys.Flat pulleys that are stationary or move get the back of the belt. You can figure it out. Its not rocket science. Remember at some point there has to be a tensioner, usually gets the back of the belt if its a flat pulley. U may have to remove the spring and then reattach the spring after the belt is routed.

Owners manual for john deere 14pz gx14pzc147016

I don't think you need an owners manual. You should just diagnose the problem. Check your gas tank for cleanliness, gas lines for clogging, fuel pump for cleanliness if you have one, replace filter, carburetor bowl for dirt, rust, or water which is responsible for a high majority of NO START problems , and of course fresh fuel and fuel flow to clean carb. Always fuel, spark, and compression are necessary for an engine to run. GOOD LUCK FREIND.

Is this an older machine ? If so try finding the points its usualy on the front lower part of the engine behind the cover, if you see that then it needs its condensor replaced, lookes like a round battery.

If this is newer or you can also try changing the spark plug sometimes they heat up and fail.

Very high likelihood you have fuel line problems. Disconnect primary fuel line from bottom of fuel filter and blow compressed air back up the fuel line to the gas tank. This will clear the line of any trash. Reconnect fuel line to filter. Then remove spark plug and spray a couple of sprays of WD-40 into the cylinder.. Re-install spark plug and then restart. WD-4- will act as a starter fuel and will start the engine for enough rounds to get fuel pump to working to normal run.. Good luck.

Could be ignition module overheating, but then the coke influence doesn't make sense. Once it quits try either a shot of starting fluid in the carb, or tiny bit of gas. If it runs then you know you have a fuel problem. Check to be sure the gas cap is venting and check to be sure you're not getting vapor lock after the motor gets so hot. You could also disconnect fuel line to be fuel pump is pumping. Does it have a kawasaki engine? Beware of some plastic cam gears.
