Question about Cobra 25 LTD 40-Channels Base CB Radio

1 Answer

I have a LTD25 classic and my buddy hooked a 12v power supply up to it and got the polarity wrong and it started to smoke. It will still come on and light up but will not transmit, I am suspecting this diode I have read about in here. I opened it up and noticed a black resistor looking piece that looks charred and smells fairly strong. How would I go about getting this piece to replace it not sure what it is called or its value and such. Any help with this would be apprecicated.

Try usung a soldering iron. they are fairly cheap. once you remove the peice thats charred take it to your local radioshack and ask them to match it up...

What happens when u cross the wirews on a 12v car electrical system

Sparks from a battery or starter are fairly normal when connecting, however, when you connect the wrong way around, power is supplied into components that only want power in the correct polarity. Some items will be protected by diodes.

Connect the correct way and see if anything doesn't work the way it should.

How do i connect 4 batteries in series

Here is the way to hook them up in series, or in parallel.
There are 3 batteries in top (series) pic, but a 4th would be added in same wiring manner. Disregard the letters "ve" in diagrams, but the +/- polarity is vitally important in hookup.
Note that four 12v batteries hooked up in series will be 48 volts at the end terminals. (If all four are hooked up in "parallel" then the total would still be 12 volts).

If you want to supply a 12v inverter, you need to hook 12v batteries in PARALLEL.

Golf battery polarity

reversed polarity, check fuses. check the system for burnt wires also !
Always hook up your battery terminals correctly, as the alternator may be damaged if the battery is hooked up backward. jump start car, if it will. there should be at least 13.7 to 14.2 volts at battery posts while its running. if alternator is ok.

The LEDs on the transceiver are not lit, thus i have to hold the transceiver RIGHT next to the headphones, to work, do you think it coud have finally gone?

The fact that they work up close indicates the headphone end is working, and the transmitter is retaining some function.

The question is why aren't the LEDs on the transmitter not lit.
The first thing to check is if the unit is getting proper power.
The first thing to check is the power adapter.
If it's not supplying 12V then it needs replacing.
The voltage and current should be marked on it somewhere.
There should be a marking for polarity also.
Any 12V DC adapter that supplies 200ma or more will do, provided the plug fits and the polarity is correct.

If that does not get them working, you could open up the transmitter and look for anything wrong in there like burnt or damaged components, but the power supply is the part more prone to failure

My Poloroid LCD TV wont turn on power supply brick light doesnt

The TV needs a fairly stable and well filtered 12V power supply. A jumpstart box is 12V, but is I seriously doubt that it is anywhere near filtered and stable, so most likely you would smoke the TV.

Hooking the TV directly to a 12V battery is just fine, as long as the battery has enough current to run the TV.

Lost power supply

It usually wont hurt if the polarity is not right. Most electronic device have a diode to protect it from reverse polarity. Make sure that it needs 12V. If you put higher voltage than what it needs that is what will damage it.

Can a 12V 3.5A lcd monitor be replaced with a 12V 4.15A power supply?

Yes that will not create any problems as long as the voltage and plug polarity is correct. Look for the polarity diagram on the power supply, or in the manual and make sure!

Replacement External Power Supply

So the old power supply doesn't have the output voltage, current and polarity noted on the label? What a ripoff! *grin* Did you look on the case near where it plugs into the monitor? Sometimes that will tell you the voltasge and polarity. Poliarity? Get that one wrong and the monitor could be cooked instantly! But it's usually positive. I found a completed eBay listing that had this info: "the power supply which the seller used to power up this Planar Flat Panel is inventoried as follows: ViewSonic 12V Power Adaptor Model # SYS1126-5012" I looked that one up, and it's listed as 12V at 4.17A. PC Hub has them for $28.62: Good luck!
