The carburetor is not destroyed, just gummed up with the old gas. You might be able get it going yourself by doing the following: Drain all of the old gas out of it. Put in a little carb cleaner in the tank. If you have a spray can, just spray it into the tank for 3 to 5 seconds, or at least until you can see a puddle of it in the tank. Crank the engine for about 5 seconds. If the puddle in the tank has gone down, then let it sit for an hour then repeat and wait another hour. Then add some gas and try to start it. However, if the puddle in the tank does not go down at all, the carb will have to be disassembled to be cleaned. If you don't want to do that yourself, call a local mower repair shop - should be less than $50.

Yardpro mower wont start

If you left fuel in your machine for any amount of time I would consider a carb cleaning. Did you hit anything last time you mowed?
If so you may have sheared your flywheel key which times your engine. This will also cause a no start condition

Toro Mower wont stay running

The main reason why a mower starts up and then cuts off after a short period of time is because of poor air flow to the carburetor and is most likely a blockage somewhere.

First you should try this. Remove gas cap and filter then place a really thick rag over the top of the carb where the filter was and either blow into the gas tank or wrap a rag around a tapered air chuck and then place the air chuck in the gas tank (with rag fitting snug around chuck) blast it a few times and listen for bubbling, if it's bubbles then you have removed the blockage..
Take the carb off of the mower and clean the carb / jets with a thin piece of wire.
Be sure to clean the gas tank completely and the fuel line.
Check the oil level, some mowers have a low-level oil shut off.
Change the plug out with one thst is reccomended for your engine.
I wouldn't reccomend running the mower without the filter, that causes dirt and grass debri to enter the carb, fuel line and tank.

This should fix the problem, if it don't you should find a lawn mower repair service.

I hope this helps.

Mower wont start changed plug still wont start checked gas line seemed okay but what is that plastic piece in the line never seen one before

Getting a mower out of its winter slumber takes some time. Start with fresh gas, new oil, and air filter. Sometimes carbs get gummed up(varnisized gas). Donyboy73 on youtube shows how to remove Briggs n Stratton in tank carb systems and clean the parts and passages.

Just bought a 1984 mustang its not run for years and wont start it turns over getting gas to the carb and has fire not sure about wiring

Any time a car sits for a long period of time you should completely drain the gas tank. The gas is more then likely stale. Try pouring a little new gas into the carb or use starting fluid. If it starts you have found your problem and will more then likely have to drain and clean the tank and replace the fuel filter.
If it does not start with the new gas, it is either a compression or timing issue. If you have spark at the plugs, and GOOD fuel in the carb and it still wont start I would check the timing. If the timing is on, check compression. If the engine sat to long with no oil in the cylinders they can build up condensation and rust. Then when you try to start it with the rust in the cylinders it can destroy the rings and cause compression loss.

Want to mow the lawm, my efco mower purchased brand new last year wont start, have cleaner the spark plug, its full of fuel, and oil is ok, any ideas ?

If you left gas in the mower last fall there is a very good chance that the carb as developed a varnish sluge or that the fuel filter is full of ****.
Remove the gas line from the carb - do you get fuel from the tank to the carb?

this may require pulling and cleaning the carb float valve and needle and seat

Won't start. Mower was in storage and unused for 2 yrs. Replaced spark plug. Still won't start.

IF you are turning it over and getting spark then your not getting fuel
2 year old gas can turn to sludge plugging the filter in the gas tank clean the tank out - blow the fuel line from the carb. back to the tank- use fresh gas she should run

I have recently been given a Scott Bonnar SX 4000, Model mower. It would not start. By spraying petrol in the chamber it sometimes started but then stopped. Checked the spark and have disconnected and...

I would suggest 2 things to start.

1. Get a can of carb cleaner in the spray can and spray inside the carb.

2. Get some fuel line cleaner and put in the gas tank.

If neither of these fix problem, a carb cleaning is undoubtedly in order.

(If there is old gas in the tank, by all means drain and fill with fresh.)

Murray 12.5 hp riderwas sitting in garage 2 years.Sdrained gas, changed plug, starts with starting fuid and cuts off right away.

Hi, Since you put in freas gas after draining old gas, we should start here. See if you can get fresh gas at the carb. If "no", work backwards towards the tank, cleaning or replacing the fuel line, etc., until you get to the fresh gas. If "yes", clean your carb. Pat particular attention to the orifices. Make notes of any adjustment screws that you remove. I usually count the turns to closed, and then remove them. Gumout cleaner works pretty well, as does brake cleaner, and carb soak, available at any auto parts supply.
