The handset piece is interchangable. The firmware is NOT. The handset is simply the piece with the speaker and mic in it that you hold in your hand.

Hello, I recently brought in a few Cisco 7961 VOIP phones into our office. The phones register when I first plug them in but when I pick up the handset to dial there's no dial tone. I tried swapping the...

You need to verify that the Cisco phones are obtaining the proper IP address from your DHCP server. You need to make sure that you create a DHCP Pool of addresses for the VoIP phones that you have and configure the DNS settings in the scope to point to your DNS servers and configure the router settings in the scope to point at the IP of the router. You may need to also configure the TFTP settings in the DHCP scope. Check the IP address settings on the phones that aren't connecting, if they are receiving a 169.x.x.x address then it is having problems reaching the DHCP server to get and IP address. Hope that helps to point you in the right direction.

There is, but these settings are setup in Call Manager, or Call Manager Express. I would see your systems admin to set the default priorities.

Detecting calls onm Cisco 7961

If the CS70 has a lifter attached to the cisco phone then it should be able to detect an incoming call by beeping in your ear.  If there is no lifter, it won't beep in your ear, but you will still be able to answer.

Is there an easy solution to repair noisy handsets on cisco 7900 series ip phones ie: a rattle in the handset itself. Do they come apart for tightening ????

The Cisco handsets will not come apart easily, and chances are you will snap the plastic on the first few you try. Replacement handsets are however reasonably priced, and then you've got a brand new one. We have these available for purchase at Idacom.

7906G Home VOIP installation Problem

Then you need power adapter for Cisco 7960 IP phone ( -40V DC).
Cisco phones work best with Cisco, and sometimes ONLY Cisco switches.

One question which voice gateway you will use for your 7960 VoIP phone calls to go through ?
(AT&T probably supports only their IP Phones with special and usually hidden settings from end user)

James, plug the phone cord that comes out of the back of the CS55 base into the handset port of the Cisco phone, not the headset port.  Then plug the coily cord from the cisco receiver into the front of the CS55.  Don't use the "Headset" button on your Cisco phone, just lift the receiver off.
