Hi Julie,

Why do u keep requesting your computer to install the printer, just command it... Ha! Just kidding...

Remember if its a USB printer then you need to install the software first & then connect the printer, switch it on and wait for the OS to autodetect and confirm Installation.

Now here's how its done. You should have the CD that came along with your printer.
Go to Control Panel > System here click on the Hardware Tag within that cick on Device Manager button in the list see for anything already installed under Printers& Faxes Section. If so wrtie it on a paper & close the window without saving any changes.

Now click on the START > Settings > Printers & Faxes.

Here click on Add Printer and follow instructions on screen NOTE: Read each instruction very carefully.

When prompted for installation disk (If your printer is not listed in the pre-existing drivers' list) then insert that CD I mentioned earlier, in the CD drive and click OK. The rest is done automatically. Restart the PC when prompted to.

I think this should solve your problem.

It could be because you're not logged in as Administrator or you don't have admin rights. Log on as Administrator so you can add or install a printer

Have E Machine ET1161-05 trying to install Kodak ESP6150 computer does not find printer

While installing the printer just switch off the printer and try to install the printer driver completely, When the software will ask you to connect the printer then only switch on the printer. If this way still you are getting the same problem then connect the printer in other usb port or use different USB cable

I need to know which port I should use to install an hp printer

Any available (Open) USB port.

(This solution applies to your other stated problem, that apparently deals with this computer also)

HOWEVER, there is a procedure that must be followed, when installing a printer for the first time, on that computer.

The software MUST be installed first, THEN the printer is attached to the computer, (Computer off), and after Windows is running, the printer is turned on.

If you attach the printer first, and THEN when Windows is running, load the software, you will get a driver conflict.

When a device, (Printer in this case), is attached to a computer for the first time, Windows will 'break it's neck' to find suitable drivers for the device.

If THE drivers are not there, Windows will match up one of it's thousands of generic drivers.

Windows: "Which drivers do I use. These or THESE?"

[ Driver: A small piece of software that allows the Operating System, to 'communicate with a device.
Windows XP and Windows 7 are two examples of an O/S ]

If this is what has transpired post back in a Comment.

It could also be that the USB port you are plugging into is bad.
Happens.
Try a different one.

What is the manufacturer name, and model number of the printer?
How are you trying to install it?

Computer won't recognize USB ports

If you are plugging a USB device into a different port it takes some time to recognize and install it - it re-installs for every port. There could be cable and/or port issues as well. Plug the printer into a USB port that the mouse does work on and allow several minutes for it to detect install it.

How do i let other computers in the house use the lexmark printer

If the printer is connected directly to your computer and you want others to use it through your computer, you have to set it up as a network computer for remote access.

Your computer has to be on when other want to print.
You set up your network settings to allow printer and file sharing
then you go to printers and set it for sharing.

You have to config things based off the network you have.

If the printer has a network card, then you can plug it into the network directly and anyone can print to it as long as the printer is on.

You set up the printer through it IP. Us your main computer to install the drivers first, then go to install printers and follow the guid to locate your printer on the network. You will probably have to install the drivers on each P.C or laptop.

Now if you have absolutely no idea how to do any of this and are not inclined to try, then i wold suggest googling how to setup a network printer as well as reading the paper work that came with it, as alot of times they have the instructions in there.

Because going through step by step without being there would take me forever.

Good luck.

I have a Lexmark 5400 seies printer and just purchased a HP Windows Visa PC. I am having problems connecting the printer. It keeps telling me that the USB is not connected. I have checked this out and it...

A couple of questions: Are you using an accout that has install rights? (ie. Administrator level account ) Are you seeing the UAC (user account control) prompts if you are are you clicking allow this software to run? Can you install other software? If these are true then

at this point try removing all printer software, then restart computer. Now turn on printer connect usb cable to printer then plug into a usb port on the computer, Do you get a "Found New Hardware" popup window? If so remove the cable from the computer and restart the computer. Now insert the cd that came with printer and follow the instructions for the software installation. If you don't see a "Found New Hardware"prompt then try a new usb cable, or try leaving the printer connected and turning the printer off for about a minute then back on. If this doesn't help try leaving it connected and re booting your machine also try different usb ports on your machine. If none of this helps you may have account permission issues or just bad hardware.
I would really need more info about your machine configuration if these tips don't help

I have a computer with the Vista software and I'm having problems connecting a printer. The computer is a Gateway and the printer is Lexmark X4550.

The reason you are having problems is because you need to install the driver for the printer. The driver is the software that allows the operating system and the printer to communicate.

For your specfic printer , you can download the driver here: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/PRINTER/LEXMARK/Lexmark-X4550-Printer-Driver-10111.shtml

Simply download it and run the setup , it will install the printer for you and you should be able to print!

I can not make a pdf file off of printmaster version 18. I Just got a new computer Microsoft Vista and have installed the printmaster software and it will not allow me to do a pdf file. It keeps saying...

By the way did you get microsoft office with your new PC, if so you can download a "word plugin" from microsoft which will allow you save to PDF, there are also several "freeware" converters that can be downloaded. most install as a "PDF printer" you just print the file to the PDF printer rather than your default, then they give you an option to "resave" as a PDF

I have lost my disk to my lexmarkx2470

Go to

http://support.lexmark.com/ and enter your pinter's model number. Download the appropriate driver and re-install it.

To reinstall/update your driver in Windows,

First, turn off and disconnect the printer from your computer.

Install the driver downloaded from Lexmark and follow the onscreen instructions. (At some point it will tell you to connect the printer and turn it on)

If the driver installation procedure fails,

RIGHT-CLICK on My Computer and choose "Properties" from the context menu.

Select the "Hardware" tab.

Select the "Device Manager" button.

Expand the "Printers" subheading and select your printer.

CLICK on the "Properties" button.

CLICK on the "Reinstall Driver" button and allow Windows to find the driver you just installed and reinstall it.

If THAT does not work, go back to the Device Manager>Printers section and highlight your printer. Press the Delete key on your keyboard and then  confirm that you want to remove the printer.

Leave the printer on and reboot your computer. Windows should now find your printer and reinstall the software for it "automagically".
