Question about Hoover U6441-940 WindTunnel Bagged Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

We had to take the bottom of the vacuum apart to remove dirt that had plugged the hose. We cannot put it back together so that the smaller round belt stays tight. I need a diagram of how this belt is supposed to fit.

Most vacuum manufacturers avoid putting their shop manual in the public domain. There are various reasons for this, some good ones.
But I did find this. Maybe it'll help.

Hey Julie,

Hopefully we will get this solved together.

To me, this problem sounds like either the filters are choked up and cannot breathe, OR.... the bagless cannister is not quite sitting in the machine properly.
Honestly, I am more leaning towards the cannister not quite in properly, that is assuming that everything is out of the suction hose.

Start with the process of elimination. Remove and clean the filters with a paint brush or other brush. Get as much dirt and debris off of them as you can and replace them into the machine.
Turn on the machine, and using only the hose attachment, feel if the suction is there. If not, try a re-alignment of the cannister and check the hose. a small coin or marble running through the hose will tell you if there is still a blockage in there.
Where the attachment hose connects to the bottom of the machine could also be blocked up as well. This will also give the same effect of the dirt blowing out the bottom of the machine.

Lastly, it is also quite possible that the belt has stretched or worn out. This too will contribute to it not picking up.
Let me know if this helps, and we will go from there.
Good luck,
Mark

How do i clean the two little top parts above the bottom empty dirt cup

hi there,

inside the dirt chamber you should be able to twist and remove both of the silver what look like arrowheads and you should be able to get up inside the top with a water hose to clean out the upper area there. Allow for the unit to dry before you put it back together.

Good luck.

My Bissell will not **** up pet hair or dirt

Hello,
Dirt hair and such will build up in the hoses of that vacum. Take them apart stretch them out and run something through them to make sure they are clean.
The other problem is the filter in the bottom of the cup. At least on some models there is a filter that gets totally pligged with dirt and dust. Take it apart, wash it out and them put everything back together.

There is no suction, even though the container is empty

Your hose is clogged and needs to be cleared. You may have to remove one or both ends of the hose that connects the dirt to the container.

You might have success trying to "back vacuum" the hose. A broom handle is sure to clear the clog, however.

Wait, there are two more screws that must be removed before the top shell will come off. They are located under the wheels. Pop the wheels out by simply inserting yoru finger or a small tool into the wheel and pulling straight up. Remove those two screws and then you can proceed as mentioned above.
When reassembling the head, if the shell does not snap back onto the base, check for plastic chips or other debris in the narrow slots on the underside of the shell. Clear these slots out and the head should easily snap back together.

I recently cleaned all the filters in my Bissell powerforce, now instead of suction I get all blown back instead.

take all the filters out put the dirt cup back in then try it again.3 filters 1 on the bottom of the dirt cup and one above the dirt cup and one in front at the bottom behind the little door.if thats not it at the bottom on the right side you will see a clear hose thats your intake hose, one screw holds it on,take it out and bend a coat hanger so the tip is rounded ,then work it down into the clear hose ,you should be able to push the clog out through the bottom

Oreck won't pick up dirt.

Check the roller brush, dust channel and then the back spine tubes - two parts which also holds the cloth bag - which holds it at the bottom via a spring. Unhook this, and prise up the rubber rings that hide the push in locks. Push the locks in and the spines should separate. You may need to undo the power cord since it comes out the top near the handle at the bottom. Check both spines and remove clogs with a thin round stick. Put everything back together slowly and switch on.

Won't pick up

try removing the 4 screws on the bottom of the vacuum and remove the gray hose from the flexible clear hose on the back of the vacuum near the bottom then take a rag and push it through the hose to the outlet on the bottom it is a straight shot it should clean it out. I did this to solve my problem with no suction on the vacuum and it worked. You would be amazed how much hair and dirt are in there. Then just put everything back together and it should work just fine assuming you cleaned the air tube behind the canister too.

V-belt flapping on Hoover Self-Propelled WindTunnel Bagged Vacuum Hoover Self-Propelled WindTunnel Bagged Vacuum U6441-940 The v-belt started flapping / knocking against (very loud rat-a-tat-tat) something after I replaced the flat belt. My wife ran it that way ("It's loud, but it's picking up REALLY GOOD!") long enough for the v-belt to begin wearing a groove past (at the end of) the groove it's designed to run through on the bottom plate. I bought a new v-belt because the old one did have a crack in it and seemed loose (positive it's the correct part: Hoover Vacuum Belt #38528-034) and positioned it in the groove to the inside of the large (flat belt) pulley in back and in the groove on the brush roll. The new belt seems too loose, also. I can't find a diagram to compare, so I'm not sure if the v-belt is positioned correctly. The Owner's Manual is worthless for this. When I release the handle from upright, the v-belt is pulled (kind of) taut and seems to make contact on the outside (writing side) with the little plastic roller thing under the brush roller (adjusts up and down for carpet height - idler arm?). But it's not taut enough to keep it from slipping and flapping. The brush roller turns when the handle is released down, but the v-belt is whacking against something and continues to grind that new, extended groove. I tried pulling the v-belt around the outside of that pulley / roller thing that's under the brush roller and nothing would move at all when I turned it on. It was nearly impossible to remove, so I assume that was NOT the correct installation. I've had the thing apart so many times that I've stretched out the flat belt and will have to replace that again, too.
