Will it spin if you turn it?
I'd guess that the belt is either loose, or it's worn out and is slipping instead of turning the brush.
Solution: buy a new belt and replace it.

The brush does not spin when engaged. Everything else is working fine.

When you remove the brush, the release button resets a trip fuse on the pcb. If that does not work at sounds like you have either blown the rectifier pcb or burnt out the DC motor that is in the brush head. You can get a complete replacement brush head for 70 pounds.

I have a kenmore upright direct drive vacuum. The vacuum works fine in all ways except the brush just stopped working. Any ideas?

The rubber belt which drives the brush could be broken or the brush can be clogged with string and hair etc.

The brush is not spinning

Do you have animals or maybe picked up some string? Check the brush and see if anything is stopping it from spinning. You might have to manually turn the brush to get the string or hair out. You can cut it but be very careful.

Turns on but doesn't turn over.

I would first check your filter as a dirty filter will sometimes produce this probIem. If that doesn't work take a look at the brush bar. I don't believe that these vacuums have a belt (I could be wrong about this and a broken belt will disable the brush) so the only thing that I can recommend is to unplug it, turn it over and see if there is anything obstructing the roller brush such as string, tinsel, rocks, etc. See if you can turn it with your hand without using much force. Good luck!

Sweeper Brush doesn't turn.

Could be that too much hair, string, or long fibers have been collecting around the roller. Remove it and clean it off. Also check the duct behind roller that goes up into the connection hose. Ther most likely is some sort of blockage.

How do I take the brush out?

Most of these progressive drives have a bottom plate that you can take off, then you can get to the brush roll asm. There will be several screws.
