You can get a free manual for your unit at http://www.retrevo.com/support/Hitachi-53UWX10B-TVs-manual/id/371ag905/t/2/ Your unit is not a digital unit in the sense that you could get off air channels in digital. It is digital with the other inputs but not off air. To get digital off air you would need to buy a digital box to convert the signal to analog or separate audio/video or composite video. Cost for a box is about $40.00. Let me know if you need more help.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the generous rating.

Barb..be sure you run a TV signal through the VCR first. And then a coaxial from the VCR to the TV. This is the easiest solution for now. And set the vcr to tv/video {channel your movie is on}hit record and hit tv/video and watch your tv for another movie!

I am trying to set the time recorder, but when I press the menu button, nothing shows up on my TV screen to choose any setting.

TV's don't record. Digital Video Recorders 'DVR's' do.
My thoughts is that you are on the RF/TV input and not the DVR input when you wish to set the Time Recorder.
Just a thought?

Recording HD channels

well you would need to hook up cable box to dvd recorder. the only draw back first off is one you cannot get hd onto a dvd. you can down scale and it will seem a little cleaner than standard def but of coarse it will never be high def. I'm not to familiar with the motorola boxes but if they offer dvr's in your area i would suggestgetting one you can record all channels then afterwards transfer them to a outside device. but as i said before high def cannot fit onto a dvd unless you plan to copy one movie to 6-7 disc. Just keep in mind a standard high def channelcan only fit 2 max on one freq due to the amount of data transfer as opposed to 10 to 12 standard def digital channels

Ineed a manual for a H2080MW8 DVD Recorder

The Magnavox H2080MW8 is actually manufactured by Funai; you can find the manual on their website at this link: http://www.funai.us/funai/support/index.html. Just click on "Owners Manual," type in your model number ("H2080MW8"), and search; the manual will pop up below as a *.pdf, so just right-click on it and choose "Save As..." to save it to your computer.
Good luck with that thing. I bought the same DVR last May (2008), and I'm currently on my 4th replacement from the manufacturer. When it's working, it's fine; nothing special to it, just a basic DVR. However, I've had all kinds of problems with my original and 3 replacement units screwing up recordings, failing to detect ANY channels (digital or analog), and refusing to open the DVD tray. You can see my Amazon review of the thing here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2RZFE2BMA4GT0/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm

Digital to analog converter box to tv/vcr combo

You will need a splitter and an rf modulator to do timed recording of programs. The instructions are on the dtv answers website, option # 2, record and watch a different channel. The recording is for the analog stations 1-24. You cannot record the higher stations. The items I purchased were a 3 way splitter $7 at local hardware store, an rf modulator $25 at Radio Shack. The other option was to get a cable box for the tv and record off of that at $6.95 a month or a DVR for $8.99 per month, all from comcast. The price that I paid for the items I needed would be repaid in 3 months if I were to go the comcast route. The conversion is nothing more than a money making scheme for them.
