My dyson dc17 stopped working while I was using it and would not power back on. The unit felt warm to the touch. Filters and collection area were realatively clean. Are there and safety switches or fuses?

These types of vacuums get clogs in the hose system pretty easily and frequently. Detach the hose and try to roll a marble through it. If it's plugged, well, the marble won't go through. Try holding the wrong end of the hose to the intake, turn th emachine on. This may help loosen the clog.
If the hose is clear, check the intake port on the tank. There may be a bunch of gunk there that will be easy to clean out.
Another possibility is the short tube/hose in the power head. You can try the marble trick here as well. Simply drop it into the port where the hose would attach and let roll through to the other end. If it doesn't, somethings stuck. This will probably be difficult to clean out if there is. A shop call may be necessary.

I turn on the vacuum and it does nothing but when i put the brushes down is turns on and the brush motor runs.....but the suction motor won't do anything.......help!

You have power so it can't be the switch or power cord. It is most likely the motor or the cord from the switch to the motor that is the problem. Start by checking these areas first.

My dyson is 8months old now its lost suction the brush turns thats it.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. If the cleaner doesn't seem to be performing as well as usual, you may need to wash the filters, and check for any obstructions. The easiest way to locate and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=954&product=DC17-ANIMAL

Under normal use, the filters should be washed at least once every 3 months. The correct way to do this is shown in our video guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1463&product=DC17-ANIMAL

Hopefully this should resolve your issue. However, if you've tried these steps and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and provide further assistance. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to askdysonUS@dyson.com, someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

Stopped up, I cleaned all filters and hoses, but still stopped up, can't find the blockage

your cyclones are clogged. It's a common problem with the dyson dc17. I have one and just found out by googling it. The only way to fix it if Dyson won't is to disassemble it to get it completely clean. You can google this and there are complete instructions and photos so you can do it yourself.

Dyson DC17 Animal does not have enough suction from the wand handle to power the mini turbine head. The wand handle has very little suction.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though your wand/hose assembly is blocked. Try following the blockage procedure in your user guide or visit our website's support section where you can use our self help guide to diagnose problems.

When it gets warm it cuts out then when left for a

what model dyson is it? If its the DC17 check the rubber seal inside the canister at the bottom of the cyclone where the bottom door comes up. if you see a gap between that filter and the bottom lid then dirt has passed through your filters and went into the motor. This was a bad design for dyson and a common problem on the DC17 only. If that happened, the motor could be damaged. check for a clog somewhere in the vacuum, check both of your filters for dirtyness and cloggs.

Dyson dc17 power on/off button will not engage when pressed

The on/off switcdh underneath the button sounds like it's faulty and will need replacing. I would suggest caling Dyson in your country with the Serial No of the unit for guidance.

Changing the HEPA filter on a DC17 Animal

Just took my Dyson in and yes my HEPA needed changing. It's under the right wheel (as you're looking at the machine); you can see it through the "vents" above the wheel. The screw is on the bottom of machine.

You will probably need a Torx (star) 15 screwdriver -- that's what Dyson seems to use everywhere.
