Honda gxv390 will not run WITH an air filter but runs very good without it. Has new air cleaner, inlet valve and new carby. Chokes and carries on when the filter is fitted, just as it did prior to fitting all the new parts.

U need to have the aircleaner housing carefully checked for obstructions,this can also be caused by a clogged main jet in the carb

Hi, does it have a fuel shutoff solenoid in the bottom of the carby? if so has it got a rubber tip on it? if so remove the rubber tip and try it as the rubber swells and restricts fuel flow. Also remove all carby jets again and clean down through them using some twisted multi strand wire and carb cleaner and air. Just blowing air through wont remove varnish deposits etc from the walls of the jets. Let me know how you go, regards Phil.

id say its your idle jet is blocked. remove and clean carburetor thoroughly is solution or for quick fix try removing air filter and spraying carburetor cleaner into throat of carby whilst revving engine, repeat several times and perhaps that will flush it without need of removing carby.

hello sir, my machine will only start when pumping primmer bulb or squirting fluid in the carburetor than stops. the fuel line has broken off, in most small carburetors this is a ongoing problem.old fuel will crystallize when left in tank for a long time.plugging up ports, fuel lines, small screen in carburetor.fuel lines will dissolve clogging carb.this is why it will run when the choke is on creating a vaccum to where there is fuel forced in the carb to rum,also the gas will evoporate leaving the oil behind clogging up carb.the thing to do is remove carb. and clean out,replaceing gaskets or fuel line if necessory.use carb cleaner to clean out carb.make sure to make note where fuel line go.the fuel filter broke off of fuel line letting debris get in carb plugging it up.the muffler is known to clog up a lot on these machines where thay want run. the compression should be 60 to 120 lbs any thing below 60 is junk. when adjusting the carb screws turn in all the way than turnout 1 1/4 turns turn in slow untail machine runs also you need to check for spark by removing plug and grounding aginst engine to chech spark, ok.a new spark plug would be a good ideal too , if you are going to make these repairs use new fuel line and filter,hope this helps,any comments welcome,thank you, 33

My stihl ts 760 , no gas going to carb. I have changed all filter , fuel, air, all gaskets , all gas hoses, new decompression valve, plug, cleaned carb. was working before this . Any ideas?


Clean it again you missed something or maybe a gasket is on wrong. If you went through all of that it should run fine. Stihl usually rebuilds and runs well. Slow down turbo maybe you got a little ahead of yourself. Good Luck...

I have a Baldor 6000W generator with a gx340 11hp engine. I have drained the tank and carb and put new gas and sea foam in it. Also I have replaced the spark plug and fuel filter. The engine will...


It sounds like the engine is not getting enough fuel for it to run. First check that you have the fuel tap in the on position. If the fuel tap is on then the carby might be blocked or the needle & seat are not working properly. Turn the fuel tap off. Then take the fuel bowl off. You will then see a plastic float,turn fuel tap on. Fuel then should be flowing from carby. Push the float up and this should stop the fuel from running. Do this a couple of times to ensure that it is working correctly. If all is good after that then turn fuel tap off. Put fuel bowl back on, turn fuel tap on and test. If no luck, turn fuel tap off. Then you will need to take the carby off the motor and clean it using carby cleaner. Be sure to spray cleaner in all holes of carby and blow out carefully with air compressor. Put carby back onto motor and turn fuel tap on and test.

YZ 250 1995 2 stroke have spark,cleaned carby & fuel tank,good compression, mixture 35.1 cannot start my legs going to drop off... Timing has not been touched also use to start & run fine....


If you have a good fat spark and timing is stock, with good compression, your problem is likely fuel/air mixture. Assuming you have good quality fresh fuel/oil. Set air mixture screw one and a half turns out. What is the condition of the reeds and reed holders. Is there a build-up of fuel/oil residue on the piston port skirts or the crankshaft? Check for absolute seal between carby and reed valve manifold. Check for obstructions through airbox inlet, filter and inlet to carby. Ensure the governor is not fouling. Bike chokes down after throttle is open past 20percent things i checked cleaned silencer cleaned intire carb things i havent checked fuel cutoff solenoid ex.port valves thrttl position sensor

Is your carby well fixed? If your air intake is too big ,the bike will not run properly .
Make sure the carby is not taking additional air or not enough .
Clean the air filter , tune the carby with the mixing screw air/fuel

2001 suzuki gs 500 only starts when choke is on and dies when it is shut off. Leaving choke on and then giving it gas also kills the engine. any ideas


If you have good fat spark and there was no undue valve train noise prior to this problem, then your problem lies with fuel delivery, or restriction of it.

Air/fuel mix has to be right at start up and as such, all of the inlet system should be inspected or serviced. From air filter inlet, filter, manifolds. Fuel tap, fuel filter, fuel lines, float levels, float needle and seat, pilot and main jets, needle and slide.

Start with filters, check needle/slide are rising in unison and fuel is flowing freely to floatbowls. Good idea to take drains out of carby's and spray some aerosol carby cleaner down fuel lines till it flushes thru' carby' drains. Check carefully condition of inlet manifold providing an airtight seal. There is a sitelink below that has exploded views and part names for all sections for your bike to assist.

Carby carby carby!
Give the carby a flush with some Carby Cleaner. (retail 400g aerosol can)
Check condition and clamping of inlet manifold for cracks, warping or air leaks.
Reset Slide Needle one notch down.
Turn air mixture screw fully in and back out one and one half turns and try idling now.
When you get engine idling turn the air mixture screw in or out to the highest revs without use of throttle. Reset idle to optimum speed with throttle stop or idle screw.
