Sony KDS-XBR60 lamp burnout twice

I would suspect the ballast that powers the lamp may be bad.

It would be a good idea at this point to Call Sony customer service to see if this issue in this model is in their extensive data base of problems/answers by model number.

How do i replace the screen? I have another screen from the same model and need to swap it over

Well this is quite a hard one. You have to unscrew all the screws from the bottom side of the laptop. You have to unscrew the screws that keep the keyboard in place. After doing this you have to unplug the cables that power the screen, the keyboard and other stuff. Near the hinges you will see some screws. Usually 2 per side. Unscrew those ones.
If you have only the panel, only the lcd screen without the plastic component/ border you have to unscrew the screws on the side of the screen. If you have in one piece just screw it to the chassis.
Screw all the components that you unscrewed before.
It is a tedious operation and it is better to take the laptop to a specialised workshop. It is safer, even though it is a little bit expensive.
If you need further assistance just leave a comment. Cheers

How do you replace the screen on a Sony VGN-FW290

What you need is a copy of your service manual. This has the details on repairing , disassemble and full instructions to do so.

unfortunately the only one i could find is one you have to pay for
http://www.user-guides.co.uk/download/sony/sonyvaio/sony-vaio-vgn-cs215j-laptop-drive-loud.html

i dont have any pictures but the steps are outlined as follows.

1.) remove laptop hinges cover (the plastic thing that covers the hinges between the computer and the screen, the screen lifts on it).
2.) remove the screw hiders ( small circular plugs covering the screws holding the shield over the display unit)
3.) unscrew and unjack display screen.
.4) replace screen
5.) screw screen in place, replace lid, screw in place, replace screw plugs, replace hinge covers.

Thats it in a nut shell.

Open up casing in laptop

Flip it over and draw a diagram of the back make sure to indicate every screw location then unscrew the screws as you do this tape each screw to the location in your diagram. The screws are the most difficult part in disassembling a laptop the diagram ensures you will know where every screw goes. After you unscrew the shell you may need to unscrew screws within your laptop before you begin draw a new diagram and tape the inside screws to your new diagram.

How to replace the DVD drive on Acer Aspire 5002

I actually had to permorm this action yesterday.
First remove the small strip above the keyboard by unscrewing the three screws at the back of the machine that hold it; then twisting the screen al the way back and lifting it up.
Second unscrew the keyboard (2 screws) and lift it away (don't detach the cable).
Third: on the left side under the keyboard unscrew 3 screws that hold the cdrom in place.
Pull the drive out. The rest (taking the case of the dirve) should be transparent.
There is nothing on the bottom you have to unscrew!

Can't get to the power window motor on my 87 E-150.

Here are the steps;

Unscrew the locking door knob counterclockwise
Unscrew the door handle/pull with a phillips screwdriver (2 screws)
From the bottom of the panel, pull the panel firmly toward yourself.
This will cause the plastic anchor locks to release (or break after 20 years) the panel.
Follow the locks up both sides (left and right) with your pull.
When you are at the top, lift straight up vertically to release the top of the panel from the door/windshield trim!

Underneath you will see tar sealed plastic---peel it back to access the power window or power lock, or window track assembly.

Installation is reverse of this procedure.

Screen swap out for a sony vaio vgn-fw235j

With the power disconnected. First off there are 4 rubbers on the screen bezel itself. Take those off and then unscrew the 4 screws.

Then take off the screen bezel itself, it will be held in by clips so you may have to use a flathead to pry it off.

Once you expose the screen, there might be one screw on each side holding in each screen hinge, if so that those screws out.

At this point there will be 4 screws holding the screen in on both the left and right side hinge.

Go ahead and take off the 4 screws on each side of the hinge and this will loosen the screen completely.

At this point go ahead and unseat the connector that goes to the inverter toward the bottom of the screen. Also unseat the connector that goes to the back of the lcd.

At this point you will have the old screen removed.

Now go ahead and screw in the screws on the left hinge and right hinge so the new screen will stay in place. Go ahead and hook up the connector to the inverter, hook up the connector to the back of the lcd. At this point go ahead and turn on the laptop and just verify that the screen works and that there is no defects such as lines in the screen or weird colors. If there is then you'll need another screen.

If you have the 2 screws, screw each one on each side of the hinges to keep the hinges in place.

Then go ahead and snap the front bezel in place, then go ahead and put the 4 screws in place and then the rubbers on and you'll have a working laptop with a new screen in place.
