Mackie 450 crackles when the cable in plugged into the XLR. Cables have been swapped several times so that is not the problem. Would like some advice?

Its a little tricky to get at anything with these, but there are a couple of possibilities:

1) Poor connections at the connector itself (not likely)
2) Dirty/defective controls (more likely)

I have changed many of these controls. A quick test is to work the controls back and forth with the unit off. Turn it on and try carefully to adjust the volume knobs. If they are the problem, you should hear some crackling while adjusting them. Sometimes working them will clear it up for a while.

These parts can be replaced relatively cheaply. Figure on $5-$10 for parts.

How can i get more volume on my onstage monitors thru my mackie 2404 vlz3 mixer or what is the proper way to connect the monitors

Without more information of your speakers and amps we can't really help you. The Mackie board puts out line-level signals and that should drive any connected amp or powered speaker to the full capability. Make sure you are using BALANCED interconnect lines either XLR or TRS cables. Use of TS unbalanced cables costs you 6 DB and also noise pickup. Make sure ALL your gear, amps, speakers etc are powered from a SINGLE receptacle or power conditioning module. Normally you will use the AUX outputs of the mixer by way of TRS cables or balanced lines in a snake to power amplifiers onstage which then connect to the stage monitors. If you have powered monitors the returns of the aux to the stage go to the powered monitors. A heavy duty extension cord brings power back from thee stage power to the mixer.

After we switch from the auto to another manual mixing board the volume on one of the mics is decreased dramatically. all other mics are not effected. both boards are linked and we have a toggle switch to...

Check the cables. If one lead of an XLR-XLR cable is shorted to ground, 6 DB gain is lost. You haven't really supplied enough information regarding cables and model of the manual mixer for us to help much. Do check that ALL of your audio interconnections are BALANCED lines either XLR to XLR or TRS cables. Grounding one side of a balanced line reduces gain 6 DB. Try swapping mic cables and channels to test where the problem is in the system.

I have a mackie fx 8 mixer connected to two thump 15 " speakers. i want to add a set of base non- powered speakers with power amp to my fx 8. what are the connections?

Balanced audio interconnects (either XLR or TRS cables from the mixer and then balanced audio interconnects from the amp daisy chain inputs to the existing speaker inputs. If the amps do not have linked input jacks, then use TRS type WYE connectors at the inputs. Then use speaker rated cables from the amps to the passive speakers.

How do i hook up my mackie mr5 speakers to my interface? Should i plug the cables in the trs (balanced ) section at the back of the speakers

yes - trs or xlr inputs will give you the same result, as long as you use the correct cables.

Make sure the mackies are off when you plug them in or you'll get a nasty thump. Equally, make sure the volume is down on your interface initially.

How can I connect my mackie mixer 1202-vlz3 to my mac mini

use the xlr (3 prong) main left and right outputs of the board. get xlr to 1/4 inch cables. one end will be 3 prong, to plug into the mixer, then the other end will be a mono 1/4 inch plug, like a big headphone plug. Then you have to get a dual mono 1/4 inch to stereo 1/8 inch adapter and plug it noto the line in. if there is no lone in, but a microphone jack instead, you will get a mono signal instead of a stereo signal. in this case, just use 1 channel of the mixer, instead of both of the stereo outs, and use a single mono 1/4 inch to mono 1/8 inch adapter.

the xlr to 1/4 inch cables can be purchased at a music store. the 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch adapters will probably need to be purchased at radio shack.

No sound

Your power amp should be connected to MAIN OUT left and right. NOT the MAIN "in".

The CD is connected correctely as you described. Make sure the CD has a line level output to match the input expected by the mixer.
Note:Walkman style CD players require a special cable to go between 1/8 inch stereo to dual RCA plugs.

You have to advance the MAIN fader.

You should be using TRS interconnect cables from the mixer to your amps OR using XLR cables.

Have a mackie cfx20 and i'm only geting signal on rightside

Make sure the PAN knobs are centered...

Also you can do a lot of troubleshooting with headphones in monitor jacks, etc.

Remember to use BALANCED lines out of the mixer which are either XLR or TRS type cables.
