Gas line had to be disconnected to house last week for a gas leak repair. Everything is fixed and gas is back. Now gas dryer will not heat up. It runs fine, just no heat. Is there something I have to...

most gas dryers have what is called a ignitor on them that will glow when the unit is turned on and after they get red hot then a milivolt signal is sent back to the gas valve to open and fire up... i would check to see if the ignitor is glowing first... you will have to gain access to the bottom of unit in order to see this. you will have to remove front of dryer and most likely the tub, some of the newer maytags have a bracket that will hold the tub in place while working on it... before i did al this though it is possible there is still air in the line and will require bleeding the line at dryer... alot of people are afraid of gas but if common sense used you will be fine... you should have a gas stop at dryer gas supply line if not you need to install one. either way take a wrench and remove gas line at one of the closest connections to dryer and on purpose bleed a small amount of gas out.this will do 2 things (1) it will bleed any air in line going toward dryer and (2) confirm you still have gas pressure and gas going to dryer after your disconnection last week nothing happened to line.then reconnect and try again. if you ran dryer for an extended time it would eventually bleed the line also. not sure how long you ran it,but this will prove you still have gas at dryer . if after that no cure check the ignitor on unit to see if it is working if it is and no flame the gas regulator may be faulty after the disconnection last week/.... good luck to you

Hi, i have an amana dryer, model LG8409w2. it is running but has no heat. is this a gas dryer? and how do i get into it to see what's wrong. thanks

Hi, to tell if it is gas or elect, just pull it out some and look behind it. A gas dryer will have a galvanized pipe with a gas flex line and shut off valve going to it. If electrical, it will have a large diameter cord plugged into a large round plug much different then a regular receptacle. It sounds as though it is a electric dryer as it is running. A gas dryer will have a regular plug on it to. If no heat, it could be a number of things that are wrong. The heat strips are located at the rear of the dryer behind the panel. You will need to unplug it and pull it out to do this. Give yourself lots of room with a strong light to work with. The heating element has several coils of wire lined up in a vertical position. Look them over very good for a break in any part of these coils, look very carefully to find one. If you do, you will need a new one. Take the model, serial, and name to a appliance parts house to get one. If by chance it is gas, make sure there is gas to the unit and the valve is open. Shut off the valve and take loose the line. Crack open the vale a little to hear and smell the gas. There is not much you can check on a gas dryer but this, that's about it. It may be the ignitior, a thermostat ect. I am sure you have a electric dryer, so check the element and clean all of the lint from the unit. Get back to me on this, so we can go further if needed.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7

Hoover 0910dryer not heating. element replaced not long ago

Hi, the possible causes are: Possible Causes: The wall receptacle, power cord (plug) and electrical supply must be in good condition and wired correctly for the dryer to heat.
  • Supply Issue - Loose or missing connection on supply wire from circuit breaker.
  • Plug Issue - Loose or missing connection in the wall. Defective, worn or damaged wall plug.
  • Cord Issue - Loose, missing or incorrect connection of the power cord to the dryer terminals.
If gas dryer and does not heat, Gas Dryer heats with a gas burner, make sure the gas supply line valve is open.
Also, for electric dryer,
Electric dryers require two 30 amp breakers or fuses in the house electrical box to run and heat. If one breaker is tripped or one fuse is blown, the motor, the timer and lights can work but the dryer will not heat.

Smelled mild gas odor after moving dryer. Replaced gas line connection. Still smell gas. Tried to tighten gas line have strong gas odor after running dryer. Does not seem to be heating

The gas valve should not be opening unless the glow igniter glows and sends a signal to the gas valve. I suspect a small leak in either the gas pipe or at the gas valve. You will have to get to the gas valve to perform a leak test. While the dryer is open, replace the igniter.

Dryer turns on but does not heat up

the first thing to check is the ignitor .how ever there is a thermal fuse located on the exhaust duct inside the dryer that may be bad this woulld cause the unit to run and not get hot.this needs to be checked with an ohm meter for continuity there is more than one thermal fuse so check them all just to be sure.i hope this has helped.please let me now how things turned out.good luck

Bosch dryer not heating

make sure you try it a couple of times. gas takes a long time to travel to the pipes. no way to purge the lines.

check if there is propane in the new tank, check if the valve is open, check if the propane is at the hose going to the dryer already.

tnx 4 using fixya,
