Sometimes those standard 4-pin Peripheral power cable's connectors, are VERY hard to disconnect from an IDE harddrive.
Only work with the connector itself, and do Not pull on the wires.

See the 'Ears', or tabs, that stick out on the back of the connector?
(Where the wires go into the connector is the Back. The Front of the connector is what plugs into a device, or add-on adapter cable)

Ease up on one tab at a time. Try to wiggle the connector side, to side, as you pull up.

Sometimes a tool is needed. Such as a pair of pliers.
The method is to grab the plastic connector under the tabs, and wiggle side to side, while pulling up, and out.
YES, great care is used while performing this 'procedure'.

Use enough force to see the connector start to move up on one side, then apply pressure so that the other side just STARTS to come up.
Keep wiggling side to side, and easing one side of the connector up a little at at time, then alternate to the other side.

[ I have had a few of those standard 4-pin Peripheral power cable connector's, stuck in the back of a PATA (IDE) harddrive through the years. Always a 'joy' to remove ]

You dont need a tool. There is a little tab in the middle of the connector. you have to press it hard (maybe use pliers but be careful) and pull up.

Dell optiplex 270 startup

sounds like power supply failure. You can try removing all of the ram and pressing the power button again. If nothing happens, its either a bad power supply or a bad motherboard.

Two beeps ptimary drive primary drive not found

While hard drives do die the usual suspect is a loose cable. All it takes is a bump or it running hot and the cable can become loose. You need to open the case and then reseat the conenctors. (Just pull one end off then put it right back on. )

You can replace the drive fairly cheaply but will need to reinstall windows and your software etc.

You are limited in the choices for video card The Optiplex GX270 only has a 160W power supply Not only that but because of the slim case, you're most likely limited to low profile video cards. That means the choices will be extremely limited & not very good. Even after the upgrade, you'll most likely have to stick with older games. follow this link to buy low profile video cards

How is the power supply removeddell gx260

Unplug computer and then press power button for 5 seconds to drain capacitors. You'll need to remove the case screws and case to get to power supply. From the back, you'll see smaller screws near the fan output vent of the power supply. All screws are phillips #2. Dell sometimes uses special clips that you have to press or pull to release objects, but may not for power supply. You'll have to disconnect all power cables from all internal devices including hard drives, CD/DVD drives, floppy drives, motherboard and any power assisted graphics cards. There may be additional chassis screws holding power supply to chassis. If you are replacing power supply, be sure new one is of at least same wattage as the original. New supply should match the same configuration as the old one and have the same style motherboard connector. Name brands like Compaq and Dell have used supplys that are specific to their PC lines. But, you should still be able to find OEM replacements. Looking for a replacement, try

Dell OptiPlex? 270

Press delete or esc when you turn the computer on. You will be in your BIOS settings, and make sure that your hard drive is listed there. It sounds like the hard drive may have crashed, or your boot settings may have gotten switched.

My dell optiplex won't switch on.

Here'w what I would do: Unplug everything (hard drive, CD, DVD), and even consider taking out the modem if you have one. Now try to start it. If it starts (but, of course gives you a "missing boot device" error, start it up with only the hard drive. If there is a speaker in the system, you might consider removing the memory to see if it gives you an error beep code. If these things don't work, then you're looking at a new motherboard.

DELL OPTIPLEX GX50 GX 50, HDD getting very hot + psu too!! HELP!!

Hard drives can exhibit extraordinary heat output as the platter bushings start to go bad. Sometime they will make noise, but not always. As the platter bushing wear out the drive system draws more amperage from the power supply. This can cause both the HDD and the power supply to generate exesive heat. Unfortunately, there is no definate test for this. If you have a spare drive, you can run it for a couple of hours to test this theory. Best bet is to get that data backed up before you loose the drive all together.
