G'Day Dean,
As you know, this is a self help site... there is no practical advice that can be given to you to fix your problem other than charge the door down. If it were me, I would call a locksmith. They are best geared to open locked doors. You also appreciate the ramifications,if say someone was trying to open YOUR door, and YOU didnt know about it, nor authorised it. This being a public forum... I trust you understand why information about breaking and entering is not something that should become public knowledge. A Locksmith will be able to assist you.

I have an exterior screwless doorknob that I need to remove. The faceplate on the inside knob that covers the screws is also covering the little pin that removes the knob. Is there another way to remove...

There is the 3rd version of the Kwikset exterior door set. The interior face plate is removed and on each side of the base plate has small slots with a lever on either side that need to be moved to the other end of the slot. The whole interior knob assembly with come off.

How to put the striker from a door knob kit back together

i can help you with that...just follow this steps...
1.Remove the old doorknob by taking out the screws that hold it in. You will have to remove the striker separately by removing the screws that hold the strike plate in place on the outside edge of the door. Slide the striker out.
2.
Take the new doorknob, striker, and strike plate out of the packaging and look for the directions. (Most doorknobs are installed in the same way, but there are always exceptions.)

3.
Slide the striker bar into the hole. Insert the screws into the striker plate and tighten.

4.
ake the two halves of the doorknob, and place the one with the male end through the hole in the striker bar. Place the female side of the doorknob on the other side of the door and make sure that it lines up with the male end. Slide the two together. Screw the knob together using the two long screws that came with the doorknob. Make sure that the screws are tight. Make sure that you have the lock facing the right direction. You want the locking mechanism on the inside of the house or room.

5.
Test your work before you shut the door. Make sure that both sides of the door knob turn and the striker bar goes back and forth.

My soon lock the bathroom door from the inside and now i cant get into the bathroom. how do i get the door knob off so that i can get inside the bathroom?

The short answer is that you can't get the doorknob off from the outside.

Lock sets and door knobs are purposely made that way to thwart any potential thief with a screwdriver from simply removing the door knob to gain access into our homes and rooms.

What you MAY TRY is to carefully pry loose the door trim in the area of the door knob away from the door jamb. You may have to carefully remove a trim nail in the process.
Then experiment with a flat, thin, solid tool like one of those rounded spatulas used for frosting cakes slipped in between the trim piece and the jamb. Your goal is to try to get the spring latch to retract away from the door's strike plate like James Bond with a credit card. Look at one of your other open doors to visualize how the mechanism works.
This is going to require some patience, but it may save you from having to destroy the door or frame to get into the room.

Good luck!

Sitting room door has closed shut and won't open. Hinges are on the other side and I have removed the handle from my end and it appears that a spring in the inside latch has broken.

Now you can put your standard screwdriver in the hole in the middle of the metal where you removed the doorknob, turn the screwdriver, and now your door will open.

I have Kwickset door knobs on my outside doors. I

Hi,
The instructions they send are almost always generic and cover more than one subject.
If you insert the key and turn it all the way clockwise, you should be able to insert the tool tip they sent you into the hole on the shank part of the handle. Pull straight out and it should come off. Some times it takes several attempts to do.
Next turn key counter clockwise back to starting position and remove key. Dump lock out of handle, paying attention to orientation. Turn lock 180 degrees and reinsert back into handle. Put lock and handle back on to door and reinsert the key. Turn key clockwise and push.... remove key.

Hope this Helps,

How 2 instal a kwikset lock

  1. Step 1 Remove the cover plates, or roses, from around your doorknob handles. They are typically not fastened, so you will simply need to slide them away from the door using your hands. If they are on too tightly, try twisting them to loosen them up. Not all lock sets will have these plates, so don't worry if yours does not. They are simply for aesthetics.
  2. Step 2 Unscrew the two screws that are holding the lock in place. These will typically be on the inside of your home. You can dispose of these screws once they are removed as your new lock will come with appropriate fasteners.
  3. Step 3 Grasp one doorknob in each hand and slowly pull them apart until they are removed from the door.
  4. Step 4 You have an option to now remove and replace the backset (the piece that sticks out from the side of the door and catches in the striker plate). Purely optional unless the new lock is a different manufacturer and does not work with the new lock.
  5. Step 5 Remove your lock from the package. Make sure that the side with the keyhole (exterior door) is on the correct side of the door (outside of the home/room). Slide the two knobs together so that the spindles on one half of the lock connect with the holes on the other half. Push them toward the door until they are flush with the face of the door.
  6. Step 6 Install the two set screws that come with the lock. The location for these screws will be marked on the lock package.
  7. Step 7 Push the cover plates (roses) flush to the door to finish the installation. Not all lock sets will have these plates, so don't worry if yours does not. They are simply for aesthetics.
  8. I hope this helps and good luck.

Doorknob sticks in 'lock' position-but no real 'lock' feature

If this is the lock part itself, try gradually loosening install screw enough to be able to manuver lock to work and if so slowly tighten as you test each time gradually. Please clarify problem more if need to.
