In the touchpad settings (Control Panel, Mouse) see if tap to click is enabled, if so uncheck and see if there is any difference. Also try booting in the safe mode, and see if that changes anything (F8 during boot to access safe mode) If no difference, then you'll likely need a new palmrest to fix the touchpad. If the touchpad works normally in the safe mode, try a new touchpad driver from support.dell.com

Go to control pannel
you will find an option for
touchpad or pointing devices
there would be an option for sensitivity
decrease or increase
your issue will be fixed
if not reinstall touchpad drivers from www.support.dell.com

Unlock cursor for acer laptop

Your laptop comes with a touch pad that acts as a mouse. Instead of connecting a mouse each time you want to use your laptop, you can use the touch pad that is integrated underneath the keyboard. This comes in handy when you are in a tight spot such as in a classroom or on an airplane. At times, you may need to unlock the laptop touch pad because someone who borrowed your laptop disabled it. It may also be locked due to a slight malfunction that you can easily fix by enabling the touch pad in your computer settings.
Click the Windows "Start" button in the bottom-left corner of your desktop. Scroll up and click "Control Panel." Choose the "Mouse" icon or type "Mouse" in the field in the upper-right corner. Click the "Enter" button and then click the "Mouse" link. Press the "Hardware" tab or the tab to the right of it that specifies the type of touch pad you have. If you are under the "Hardware" tab, highlight the touch pad in the list of devices and click the "Enable" button. If you are under the touch pad tab, click the enable button. Click the "Apply" button and then click the "OK" button. Hope this helps.

On my Samsung lap top (brand new), how do I deactivate the touch pad when using a mouse?

There is no need to deactivate the touch pad. You can just use the mouse and not touch the touch pad.

How to unlock a mouse on a laptop

On the top of your keyboard there should be F keys like F1,F2 etc.
Every F key has a little picture. When you see a touchpad picture press Fn+F5. According to my Laptop. For example if your touchpad picture is at F6 then you would press Fn+F6.The Fn key should be located near the ctrl keys. If this does not work then try the following steps:-

1 Click the Windows "Start" button in the bottom-left corner of your desktop. Scroll up and click "Control Panel."

2 Choose the "Mouse" icon or type "Mouse" in the field in the upper-right corner. Click the "Enter" button and then click the "Mouse" link.

3 Press the "Hardware" tab or the tab to the right of it that specifies the type of touch pad you have. If you are under the "Hardware" tab, highlight the touch pad in the list of devices and click the "Enable" button. If you are under the touch pad tab, click the enable button.

4 Click the "Apply" button and then click the "OK" button.

My touch pad is not working. There is an orange light on it.

I am really sorry to hear that your touch pad is not working. You mentioned that you see an orange light on it, where did you see it? is it on the top of your touch pad? if it's just on the top of your touch pad, all you have to do is just press the button right beside the orange light. Because the touch pad is being disable indicating the orange light, when you press the button you will see a blue light indicating that you enable the touch pad.

Thanks.

This has happened several times... so hopefully you can teach me what I am doing. I am in the middle of writing an email, my hand moves.... somewhere.... and the message is deleted. Sometimes it goes to...

What e-mail program are you using?
Try placing a piece of card or a thin book or similar item over the touch pad so it cannot be touched. Then try typing an e-mail. If the problem goes away then it is definately a problem with the touch pad. If the problem remains then there is some other problem, possibly the keyboard layout cause you to press the DELETE button by mistake.
If the touch pad is the problem then try setting the touch pad sensitivity to minimum. Plugging in a USB mouse DOES NOT disable the touch pad, so this will not help you if you accidentally brush the touch pad while typing.

That Floppy Strip connects the touch pad to the motherboard.
Remove the top assembly againg and look specifically at the base of the touch pad, there is a connector that takes the cable. The other end connctes to the motherboard.
If you put it in the wrong way up, it will not damage, just won't work.
Have fun!!

Scoll bar action on touchpad works outside the scroll area

Seems like the synaptic touch pad has lost its configuration or got a little whacky.
Go to the control panel, and find the program for the touch pad.
There, try to redefine the areas for the scroll bar action.
