Question about KitchenAid KBRS20EVWH (199 cu ft) Refrigerator

Open Question

My Kitchenaid KBRS20EVMS00 refrigerator has a filtered inside water dispenser that is putting out water with little stringy white pieces in it. I recently changed the filter - but this happens with or without the filter.

SOURCE: filter for the water dispenser

LOOK AT THE TOE PLATE BELOW THE DOORS. THERE SHOULD BE A ROUND DIAL UNDER THE FREEZER DOOR.
TURN IT COUNTER CLOCKWISE ONE QUARTER TURN AND PULL IT OUT. THE DIAL THAT LOOKS LIKE PART OF THE TOE PLATE WILL SLIDE OFF THE END OF THE FILTER. YOU CAN FIND A NEW FILTER AT MOST HOME IMPROVEMENT CENTERS OR YOUR LOCAL WHIRLPOOL DEALER.

SOURCE: location of refrigerator water filter

The filter should be a canister somewhere in the line from your sink to the refrigerator. If there is no canister visib;le there then obviously they never installed a filter in the first place. I hope this helps. Don't forget to rate my answer. thanks.

SOURCE: KitchenAid Superba ice maker not dispensing ice

this is not a solution, but an explanation- our repair man said that there is a line (tube) containing electric wires that passes from the frig to the door at the bottom of the door, near the hinge. for what ever reason, the line has broken, thus keeping the electric from getting to the motor that dispense ice and water- solution= $700 for a new door; we'll do without

You may need to replace the water reservoir located behind the crisper. They are known to flake and cause the problem you describe. They are usually replaced with a coil of water line instead of one larger reservoir to stop the problem.

I have a GE refrigerator with ice and water dispenser. At times a stringy, slimy substance will pass through the water dispenser. I have changed filters, but it still happens . Any thoughts?

Inside the refrigerator is a coil of plastic tubing. It's purpose is to chill the water for the dispenser. The only way to clean this is to run a lot of water through it. I use a gallon container and fill it several times. If you get the same condition in your ice, then I'd install an external water filter in the water line behind the refrigerator.

Waterdispenser very slow flow

Good Afternoon, Jayslyrmn:

Look at the tap on your water faucets. If there is a mineral buildup there, white and green crusting, the same thing is happening to your water dispenser, and the ice won't taste too good either.

Check your on-board water filter. You can find a replacement here:

It's literally a snap fix.

Enjoy your ice tea!

No water flow to Ice Maker or water dispenser

There is a filter in the back of the fridge in the upper right hand side. If you do not change it, it will slow down the flow of the water causing it to freeze at the dispensing part in the ice maker. Look at the ice maker from the side and you can see the little plastic piece where the water comes down. Reach up and feel to see if there is ice caked inside that piece. If there is you most likely need to change the filter and defrost the freezer. If something else is the problem I can't help you there, lol... this is just from my personal experience.

Are the water inlet / outlet correctly fitted onto the filter ??
Sounds silly - but very easy mistake seen several times.
Is the water supply for the filter turned on . . remove hoses from filter to verify. - YOU WILL GET WET.

I had two (2) broken wires in the harness. I don't think you actually have to take the door off. It may be a little cramped working, but I think it can be done. Once you take off the bottom grill, find the end of the harness next to the water filter and unplug the white plug. Just below that is a ground wire. Remove the screw and take the green wire off. Then, next to that is a white "c-clip" holding the harness against the bottom of the refrigerator. Remove that clamp and you should have enough "play" to work on the harness. (It is probably a pain in the #*@ to remove the entire harness because it runs into a hole in the bottom of the door and then up through the door itself) You'll have to cut away the black mesh sleeve over the harness. I cut it with a pair of wire cutters as close to where the harness goes into the door as possible. There may also be a bit of black electrical tape at the end of the mesh closest to the white plug. Remove that, and you should be able to slide the mesh sleeve off, over the plug. This should reveal the broken wires. I just took some 12 gauge braided wire and cut a couple of pieces
