where do I get the orifice?

  • bruce-stcruz Feb 24, 2009

8 months later and the price is $40.00. However, I need to figure out how to open the blasted cabinet. Once my hands are on the manifold, the instructions with the tiny piece of brass are clear enough.

If you replaced the orifice on the gas valve, then you must screw down on the adjustment screw on top of the valve.  Use a flat screwdriver and screw down the pressure adjustment screw till it stops in the down position.  Then the valve is set for propane use.

On the white plastic pressure ajusting screw you should see a nut glued into a certain position turn the screw down untill you can not EASILY go any further. That should be the position you need. By the way for all those disassebling one of these front load dryers you have to start by removing the 6 screws on the L bracket from the top, remove the top metal take the two screw off of the plastic control panel, unplug all electrical, remove panel. you wil then see four screws on top of the front door panel, remove them, tilt from section forward lift and remove. under that is a drum support panel, four more screws there, remove them, then disconect internal light and door switch connectors, then you can lift ant pull out fron drum support panel. The drum belt tensioner can then be unloaded then you can remove the drum throught the front. You will then have the gas valve exposed to be able to change. Hope this helps someone. I took the time to type this because I could not find the information anywhere in the net!

When adjusting this plastic pressure screw, I turned the nut glued so it allowed me to turn the white plastic screw in farther. Will this be a problem that I screwed it in farther.

Actually you need to adjusted the gas valve setting or the screw you are talking about to the correct manifold pressure while the burners are on. This info you must get from LG it should have came with the oriface conversion kit this is essential as to insure the proper pressure while ignition is in process.

Look on the back of the dryer close to the gas inlet. There may be another brass nozzle in storage there. Use it to replace the nozzle on the burner.

Do I need a part to convert my Maytag gas dryer/washer combo back from propane to Natural Gas?

Yes you can, but whether you should is another matter. I purchased a new dryer and needed it to be propane ready...you need to get the proper orifice (which lets the gas in to the burners) changed out. Natural gas orifice has a larger hole than a propane orifice. In addition, the regulator must be modified. It may involve flipping an insert under the cap (typical of stoves) or it may require conversion parts packed in the conversion kit (order one specific to your drier). This regulator is part of the piping within the back of the drier.

Incidentally, conversion orifice(s) should be included with the drier and screwed to the body in a clip. When you change it over and label the equipment as converted to propane, put the old natural gas orifice in the clip and screw it back onto the body. Put the instructions in a paper envelope and tape to the outside of the body of the drier.

LG Gas Dryer to use Propane vs natural gas

The difference between a natural gas appliance and a propane one is basically the gas nozzles. For example if you have a gas stove and you lift up the top, under the burners are the small gas nozzles. The problem is there are no standard when it comes to these nozzles. In other words they are not interchangeable form one brand (Whirlpool to LG) to another or from one type (washer to furnace) to another. What you can do is contact you locale propane dealer and ask them if they have any suggestions. Also look on line for sites that may offer conversion kits like RV dealerships.
Hope this helps.

Natural gas to propane conversion LG dryer

You posted under a combo washer / dryer WD-4343RHD.
For a gas dryer, conversion is to replace Nat gas orifice with LP one (the LP orifice has a air hole going cross ways through it) plus screwing the regulator blocker (brass slot head screw on top of the gas valve) all the way down (if you missed that step, I would expect your symptoms). Also, make sure you have a good vent with strong air flow at the outdoor outlet. If poor vent, short cycling may occur.
