What software version do you have? When the display is turned on you will see a number in the lower portion on the warning screen. That is the software level.

Hey Kkmog1404 the software version on the furuno unit i believe is 1950055-02.05 Thanks for your input!! The screen went haywire one weekend in the bahamas and continued all the way back home then for the next three days or so it would do it (spin) every time you turned it on. So we called the installer and they came out and of course it wouldnt do it anymore and they had no idea what would cause it to do that so they contacted furuno and they had never seen the problem either. so they updated the software and then the port motor blew up 2 days later and its been in the shop getting repowered eversince. so we really havent had a chance to see if it works now??!?! They have been out three times before for the gps signal going out and the 1st time cleaned the gps contacts and the 2nd time they ended up replacing the gps antena they said it was full of water and the third time they replaced the gps antena and the cable??? i have never seen so many problems with electronics before water in a brand new gps antena??? they asked if we sprayed the hose on it directly. i said yeah sure we did thats what we do for fun is see how many times we can shoot the hose at the gps antena. anyway thanks for wahever info you can pass on this way.

The GPS antennas are sealed so I don't see why they would ask if you sprayed the hose at it...it won't matter. I did some fishing this past year in the Keys on a boat with the same system you have and I scrubbed the GPS antenna and sprayed it directly with water and it did not have water intrusion.

Do you know which GPS antenna you have? Also, do you have any other equipment that may be interfaced to the MFD? I am assuming that you have a NMEA2000 antenna (model GP330B). If this is the case I would first check the NMEA2000 backbone. If you don't know what that is look for some cables all plugging together via Tees. there will be 2 cables per tee and the tees plug together. Make sure that there is a terminator at the end of the tee block. If you have the NMEA2000 antenna the other terminator should be in the antenna itself.

Do you have the engine interface wired to the MFD? If so, unhook that wire. I have seen some really weird things happen if the engines are sending some information back to the display.

We have installed many of these systems and the only failures I have seen are people damaging the radar antennas. The systems we have installed have been bulletproof for the most part.

n the system setup, under “UNITS” I set BEARING to “MAG” (magnetic). This will cause the unit to display course / bearing information in relation to the Magnetic North and match magnetic compass readings. It is not the same as True North! One has to be careful with this setting. There are a number of areas where the earth's magnetic field is locally disturbed, sometimes very significantly. Your GPS may not account for it. - again, under “UNITS” I set “METRIC”.

No, you will use the appropriate Simrad Drive unit such as an HLD350. It comes in long and short throw and split versions, and dual ram versions. Better to discuss on the phone probably. 847-746-0100 or email support@technicalamrine.com
