hold your mode button down for several sections the screen will change to a different size and then should put it upright, that is what I did with y pdm-0824, and it worked looked at the owners manual hope it works for you as it drove me crazy Leanna

I had the same problem, which I attributed to having the plug in a power strip. Once I plugged it directly into the wall socket, I haven't had a problem since.

You'd need to open the unit, and the problem is either that the laser and the tray are misaligned, which can be tricky to fix even, or worse, you need a new laser. Either way, the Polaroid dvd player may not be worth getting repaired if it is no longer under warranty.
