Yes there are rivets I guess. It's not screws holding it down. I didn't know what that was called. It's four round metal pieces with a hole in the middle I didn't know how to remove. It appeared to me that was what was holding the starter/recoil down or at least keeping me from being able to get to it very easily. I started to undo four other nuts to remove a bigger piece, but it appeared that was attached to the gas tank? I just used a hex key to remove the top part to get where I am at now. I just removed two of those. Thank you again.

I took a couple of bolts off on the top to get where I am at now. I used a small hex key to get the top off. Yes I do think those are rivets keeping me from being able to get to the starter/recoil. I wasn' t sure what those little round metal pieces with a hole in the middle holding it down was called. Thank you again.

The starter/recoil unit should be bolted above the flywheel. Can you just remove the bolts holding it in place and lift it off....or are there rivets there that won't allow it's removal?

It can be a pain, but rivets can be drilled out with a nice sharp drill bit and in the holes they leave, you can install traditional hardware...that is if you need to get to that recoil unit bad enough. If you have a drill, get some sort of steel punch and dent the head of a rivet so the drill bit will have a place to grip when starting...otherewise that drill bit will slide all over the place.

It's easier to find the correct information with a model number.
I have found a owners manual listed under MTD 130-390A
owners manual for a 2002 ranch king riding lawn mower.
Hopefully this is the same as yours.

Ranch king riding lawn mower ignition problems check switch solenoid and battery now what?

If you have checked for spark at the plug end of the ignition lead and don't have one when cranking, the ignition coil has probably failed. Checking this part will require some disassembly of the mower and then the engine. I'm afraid these are all Chinese made coils now (cheap, cheap, cheap) and are common failures in most small engines.

How to replace coil string

This is best done with two people. Remove cover, place down so you are viewing the rope pulley. Remove all old rope. Measure 8 foot of new rope. line up pulley rope hole with rope opening in cover. Wind rope pulley 6 turns. Push new rope thru both rope openings, one in pulley and one in cover. Pull rope thru pulley and cover. Tie knot in pulley end of rope, Slowely release rope so it rewinds onto pulley. Install hope handle, your done. was'nt that easy? You will have extra rope, this is needed to go from engine to handle support on your mower handle.
