Compaq M2000 Laptop no Battery meter

I have a Compaq M2000 Laptop, the battery meter no longer shows up on the taskbar. What can I do to get it back? Also it is operating very slow......... What can I do to speed it up?

I checked the power setting under Control Panel. I can see the battery meter there, but it never moves to or activates on the taskbar. Any other ideas?

Check the Power settings in control panel.

Use msconfig to clear the unwanted programs which are loading during startup. This should make the laptop faster.

Let me know what happens.

Compaq Presario M2000 stopped turning on

If there is no power going to the laptop then disconnect battery and hold the reset button in for 30 seconds, then try it again. Sometimes the memory can be damaged which can cause the laptop not to boot..?

Compaq M2000 turns on using charged laptop battery but doesn't charge or turn on when using power adaptor, with or without the laptop battery

1) The AC adapter should ALWAYS be plugged into the laptop FIRST, then plugged into AC power. If not, this could create a voltage spike.

2) Let's look at the DC Power Jack, for the Compaq Presario M2000 series of Notebook PC's,

http://www.notebookparts.com/products/description.php?II=9741

The DC Power Jack is mounted to a removable circuit board.
Enlarging the view of the jack, shows us there is an Inductor.

The small 'can' standing up on the power board. This chipset could have gone south. (Bad)

How to know? Replace it, or dig out your dual trace oscilloscope. See if the Inductor works.

Could also just be cracked solder joints, of the DC Power Jack, TO that small circuit board. Solution would be to resolder it/them.

[ I WOULD however, search for a BETTER price, than listed in the link above, IF available ]

DC Power Jack is in good shape, soldered tight to the motherboard, and ruled out as the problem?
(Since you know the AC adapter is good)

Then the problem would be the Inductor on that power board, or power correcting chipset.

What one is it? Dunno.
DO KNOW is has J leads on the bottom.
CAN give examples, and perhaps you can identify using them.

"battery doesn t charge how do I know if the power cord or the battery is bad on my Presario M2000

If the battery is over a year old then it could be dead.Anything over two years I would bet on it. Usually the power bricks are very reliable. To check it you just need to put a power meter on it and check the voltage against what is printed on the brick. It should be slightly higher.

Without a meter it is pretty hard to check. You should get some indication that it is plugged in. It may have a power light on the brick or the laptop that shows it on even if it wont charge.

Compaq M2000 boot

check your memory card(s) you may have a bad on or two, and if that doesn't work then sounds like the mother board has become defective and needs replacing, but the ram Memory would be the cheeper fix first.

Compaq presario M2000 power cord won't charge my laptop

Check that your power adapter is working fine it may be that the power cable is broken somewhere between the adapter and the laptop. You could try another charger / adapter.

M2000 battery and very slow

The Power Options icon wont move to the taskbar. Double click on this icon, this opens the Power Options Properties window. Go to Advanced then select and select and tick Always show icon on the taskbar then apply. This should put the icon in the taskbar.

Try freeing some space using disk cleanup. You can also go to Internet Options to delete files stored in history.

No battery meter on taskbar

Start / control panel / power.

Then you will see a list of options, 'check' the box which says 'always show battery in taskbar'. Or words to that effect.

That'll fix it.
