Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

My GE Profile PDF 22mis/sis fridge was unplugged for a couple of weeks, and when I plugged it in today, there is a constant clicking sound from the compressor (?) in the back. The light inside the fridge comes on, but no cooling happens. I tried unplugging and plugging again, as well as leaving the fridge plugged in (with the constant clicking sound), but nothing changes. Is there anything I can do or do I need to call a repairman?

Hello,

If the lights are on but the machine is not working, then you need to check for the temperature control. If it is off, turn it on. If not, then you need to check the compressor for overheating. You need to unplug the refrigerator and clean the condenser coils. If the compressor is bad, then you need to call the repair man.

Take care.

Clicking sound coming from the back

The board on the back wall behind the metal plate has gone bad. wr55X10942 is the part number I believe. You can try unplugging unit for about 30 minutes and then plug back in but sounds as if the board has gone bad on you.

Not getting any water out of the dispenser, but its making ice

The water dispenser on my GE profile fridge stopped working for a couple days. The refrigerator and freezer temperatures have fluctuated over the past several months causing fridge items to periodically freeze and freezer items to periodically thaw. GE tech came today identified a bad circuit board, which he replaced for a cool $300. Ouch. Fridge is only three years old. Oh yeah, the icemaker also has a broken tab which causes it to jam every couple weeks. We have GE Profile appliances throughout our kitchen and they all work great except for the fridge :-( I hope GE engineers read this post. If so, get to work! LOL

probably a loose thermister. The thermister being not attached to the evap coils tight might not be relaying back the proper resistances info for the control board to make a propper defrost determination.

Temperature Display, Clicking Intermittent, Lost all Cooling

unplug the fridge and turn it around so you can see the compressor, does it have a capacitor located on the compressor (a round cylinder with wires comming out of it going to the compressor) it sounds like that could be your problem. They are pretty easy to change just a couple of wiers, just take note of where they go when you take it out. Make sure its unplugged from the wall before you do anything!
