Question about Canon PIXMA MX310 All-In-One Printer
Yeah there is something wrong with the auto feeder sensor inside, its not detecting the paper being feed in the paper path, unfortunate but needs to be repaired by canon.
Repairing this yourself would cost more then the printer cost you new, No doubt you came here for a solution not to be told to take it to a repair shop, But in this Case here allow me to explain that not all things get fixed at fixya.com.
Clients use us for our advice, Guidance, Reviews, expertise and the list goes on. Try cleaning out the paper path blowing it out with some Air, using a canned of compressed air does the trick 90 percent of the time.
Now do not shoot the messenger, if this does not work then you going ot need a new auto feeder assay. Or a new printer. Your choice but the list price on a auto feeder is $70 bucks and to put that bad boy in is not cake walk.

try resetting the printer and let's see if that would resolve this issue, if it doesn't, please let me know:
1, Power off the printer
2, Unplug the printer's power cord, wait 5 seconds then replug
the power cord in.
3, Hold the Power button for 6 Beeps
4, Release the Power Button, and the printer should have
already been reset.
If the above doesn't solve the problem, try the below steps:
1.With printer OFF press and hold resume
2.while holding it down push and hold Power button
3.Release resume whilst still holding down power, the light should be green (not flashing)
4.Push resume once (orange) twice (Green)and a third time (orange)
5.release power button.
6.Then power it off and on again after it's finished making any noises and settled down.
I hope one or all of the above steps helps to rectify the problem.
