Please let me know the make and model of your printer. You can simply check the communication between printer and computer, by connecting the usb cable (if it's wired, you'll see it on the Printers & Faxes folder), when you connect the printer to the computer, you'll a sound on the speaker or if it's already connected and switched on, just unplug it and check whether you can hear a sound on the speaker or not.
First let me know the Make and Model, and then I'll assist you further. I would also need to know the Operating System installed on your computer.
