Im setting up Canon Pixma MP640 for 1st time. To initially align the printer head I am foloowing instruction and inserting the supplied paper. It continually jams and therefore the head alignment fails and I have to go back to square one! Any ideas?

This is brand new printer and the alignment process is part of the initial set up. Unfortunately I can't complete because the paper won't feed in correctly.

Hi,

try resetting the printer and let's see if that would resolve this issue, if it doesn't, please let me know:

1, Power off the printer
2, Unplug the printer's power cord, wait 5 seconds then replug
the power cord in.
3, Hold the Power button for 6 Beeps
4, Release the Power Button, and the printer should have
already been reset.

If the above doesn't solve the problem, try the below steps:

1.With printer OFF press and hold resume
2.while holding it down push and hold Power button
3.Release resume whilst still holding down power, the light should be green (not flashing)
4.Push resume once (orange) twice (Green)and a third time (orange)
5.release power button.
6.Then power it off and on again after it's finished making any noises and settled down.

I hope one or all of the above steps helps to rectify the problem.

Good luck.

Not sure about your model printer, but on my printer I can cancel out the alignment procedure by pressing a red checkmark button on it. Try to make sure no paper is jammed in the rollers, though, you may have that problem going on. This alignment thing is, to me, a ploy to make people use up a lot of ink, since it used to be an option in the "old" days, but now it seems that they require it when changing cartridges. My documentation, of course, doesn't say anything about cancelling the alignment, I just had to figure it out.
Hope this helps, and good luck.

Hi,
If you are comfortable in tearing down the printer and putting it back, This should help you identify the problem. There is something that went out of alignment when you took off the paper that got jammed. Check the paper feed assembly, rollers and the stabilizer bar. If you don't know any of these things, I suggest you consult a local technician to check these parts for you.
Hope this work for you.

My document are all too far to the right on the paper. The printer says I should do a head alignment, however, the manual contains NO instructions on head alignments, so I have no idea how to accomplish...

Support is available at the Canon website, but the support is temporarily down. Take this link at a later time when they are back up and running. The instructions are there. Choose from the pull downs multifunction, inkjet, MP480. Scroll down and enter "print head alignment", click search and the instructions will be available there.

Canon mp130 ink cartridge jammed

Hi,

The unit may have a paper jam or stuck object inside, if you have experience a paper jam error before, check the printer for any object or paper stuck inside, clean roller.

Some error like this can be a problem on the feeder sensor and by this time you may need to replace and repair the unit.

Hope this initial info helps

Here's the solution from Canon USA:

Issue: Banded or streaked prints
Solution: Print Head Alignment MP530

Perform Print Head Alignment Instructions to perform a Print Head Alignment directly from the machine. If diagrams or ruled lines are misaligned, print head alignment is required. The print head alignment can be performed automatically or manually. If the automatic print head alignment does not work, adjust the print head manually. Automatic Print Head Alignment
  1. Press <ON/OFF> to turn on the machine.

  2. Load a few sheets of letter-sized plain paper in the auto sheet feeder.

  3. Press the Open button to open the Paper Output Tray. Then open up and set the extension by pressing down the hollow on the front side.

  4. Execute automatic print head alignment.
    1. Press <COPY> button.
    2. Press <Menu> repeatedly to select [MAINTENACE].
    3. Press the left or right cursor to select [AUTO HEAD ALIGN], then press the <OK>. (A pattern is printed and the print head is automatically aligned. It takes about five minutes to finish printing the pattern.)

Manual print head alignment
  1. Press <ON/OFF> to turn on the machine.

  2. Load two sheets of Letter-sized plain paper in the auto sheet feeder or cassette.

  3. Ensure that the proper paper source is selected.

  4. Execute manual print head alignment.
    1. Press <Menu> repeatedly to select [MAINTENACE].
    2. Press the left or right cursor to select [ALIGN PRINT HEAD], then press the <OK>. (The nozzle check pattern is printed.)

  5. Check the printed patterns and use the left or right arrow to input the number of the pattern in column A that has the least noticeable streaks.

  6. Press <OK> to move the cursor to column B, and then use the left or right arrow to input the number of the pattern that has the least noticeable streaks.

  7. Repeat the procedure until you finish inputting the pattern number for column P.

  8. When you have finished inputting all pattern numbers, press <OK>.

Note: For columns A through N select the patterns with the least visible vertical streaks. For columns O and P select the patterns with the fewest visible horizontal streaks.
