You need to log into your routers programming and set a WEP key... Or rename the SSID to something like your last name and tell it NOT to broadcast. Whenever your done write all the information down in a safe place. Then you'll need to re-run the wireless network setup wizard on PC's and tell it what the new SSID is and if you used a WEP key you'll need to tell it that too.

Whats the exact brand/model # for your router?

Forgotten password for wifi network

Which operating system ??
Your wireless Internet password is the encrypted security pass phrase that was set up when you installed your wireless router.

Your router allows you to access the Internet.
If you have access to more than one wireless network, you may need to remember multiple passwords.

If you happen to forget one password, you have two options: reset your password or locate the current password.

Windows 7 allows you to view the security characters of all your wireless network passwords.
Click the "Wi-Fi" network icon located on the Window's taskbar.

Right-click the name of your network's "SSID" name and select "Properties" from the drop-down menu.

Click the "Security Tab." The network security key is now visible but unreadable.

Click the "Show Characters" check box and this will reveal your wireless password.

Reset My WiFi Password

Wireless networking is a common feature in homes and offices.
Wireless routers provide access to a single Internet source, and wireless passwords ensure that only select users can access the network.

If a password is forgotten or lost, the password can be recovered or reset by accessing the router's Web-based settings menu.

Most wireless routers also have a reset button, which is capable of returning the router to its default settings which includes resetting the password.

Connect to your Wi-Fi or attach your computer directly to the router with an Ethernet cable.
Open your Web browser.

Enter the default address of your router.
The default address is listed in your user manual or on the product website.

Linksys and 3Com routers typically use "192.168.1.1" while Netgear routers use "192.168.0.1."
Enter your username and password.

Many routers use "admin" for the username and password by default.
Locate the wireless security settings. Disable the wireless security.

Reset to Factory Defaults

Locate the reset button on your router.
Typically the reset button is a small indented hole on the back of the device.

Insert a long thin object such as a paperclip and hold down the reset button for 30 seconds to revert the router to its factory default settings.

Open your Web browser.
Enter the default address of your router.

The default address is listed in your user manual or on the product website.
Linksys and 3Com routers typically use "192.168.1.1" while Netgear routers use "192.168.0.1."

Enter your username and password.

Locate the wireless security settings and add security as necessary.

Hi ive got a toshiba tecra 8200 but i cant use wireless connection plz help thanx

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

We're adding another coputer to the system at our house. How do we set up wireless on this computer. We already have wireless on the original computer. Do we need certain numbers to set this up? I'm...

You must have a wireless adapter installed in your new PC. Assuming there is already one, then you need to identify what type of security you use with your wireless router.
If you don;t have any security installed, then you can just search for wireless access points and then you should be able to connect to your router. The danger with not having security is others can also easily connect to your router and network and possibly hacked to your systems and also eat up on your internet bandwidth.
The easiest security is to have a password installed before you can access the router. When you search for wireless, you just choose your wireless and then you must know the password so you can access it. You can save the password so don't have to do it everytime you connect. There's still a possibility though that someone can hacked your password, but not likely in a regular environment.

Another option is to register the MAC address of all of your PC in the router so only your own PCs can connect. This is a little bit more technical though so you may want to hire a tech for this.

Idon't know what my security code is for my belkin router.

To reset your WiFi password, run the disc that came with the router, or look at the back of the router for instructions on accessing your router thru ethernet cable to reset your password. I suggest trying to run the disc first, because if you change something in the router setup that you shouldn't then you could end up with more problems. If you don't have the disc, then often router manufacturers will put info on the back of the router so that you can gain access. Look for an IP Address (Example: //192.168.2.254) If you find this, then go to a computer that is connected to the router thru the ethernet cable and open up your Internet Explorer, go to the address bar and type in the IP address as it appears on the back of the router. After this it may ask you for a Username and Password. If so, then it also will likely be on the back of the router. Once you gain access to the router's program be careful not to change anything other than the security password. Look for an area labeled Wireless Settings or something similar to that. Once you have reset or changed your wifi password, click Save or Apply if you see that on your screen, then logout of the router's program and close out your Internet Explorer.

Need to change nat type from moderate to open, and i cant access settings.

Okay, so you need to log on the router. Bring up your browser and in the address line, put in 192.168.1.1 and hit enter. That should take you to the logon page.
Leave the username field blank and then enter admin as the password, all lower case. Then click on the Wireless link and select Wireless Security. Under the Security mode, go into the dropdown list and select disabled.
That will have the Access Point as an Open connection.

Do I have to lock my D-link router connected via Ethernet cable? If so, how do I find the router on my PC?

Ya you should lock it with password .. bcoz.. if you will not lock it other might access it and it may harm you in some way.. they might access your internet resources , or data .. or anything they can do with your network settings with that router...

Connect to your router with your browser. then you will find a wireless security tab over there... click on that tab and you will find that the security features are disabled.

You should have several options when it comes to the type of security that you can choose. I prefer WPA, it allows you to simply enter a password to access your wireless network. This password can of course be saved in your wireless settings so there is no need to enter it but one time.

Simply enter your password in the password box and hit save. Your wireless network is now secure. Distribute the password to anyone that is allowed access to your wireless network.

Have you accessed and setup your wireless part of the modem?

To access the router settings menu, you will first need to log into the Wireless router following the steps below:
Open Internet Explorer
In the address bar type the following address:
192.168.0.1

You will be prompted to enter a Username and Password to access the interface, please use the following default details:
Username: This can be found on the bottom of the router
Password: This can be found on the bottom of the router

From the list on the left hand side, click on ‘Router Status’.
Within the Router Status section there are two areas you will be able to access:

Show Statistics
Connection Status

The Router Status page gives you a detailed status overview of the connection configured on the Wireless router.
Click ‘Connection Status’ to see more information on the broadband connection.
If you have already configured your broadband, you are able to establish/terminate the connection by clicking Connect/Disconnect.
You can also click ‘Show Statistics’ to show you current connection speed and more information on your Broadband connection.
Clicking on Basic Settings enables you to check all the Internet settings of your Broadband connection. Including the Login name (username) and password, IP address and type of connection.
Clicking on ‘Test’ will perform a standard check of your Internet connection and settings.
ADSL SETTINGS
The ‘ADSL Settings’ section provides you with some more information about your Internet connection. These are:
Multiplexing Method
VPI
VCI
WIRELESS SETTINGS
This section gives you full information regarding the Wireless connection. From here, you can change security settings, the SSID (Name) of the router and the access control list. Options list from:
Name(SSID) virgin broadband (default)
Region Europe(default)
Channel 11(default)
Mode g&b(default)
Enable Wireless Access point
Allow broadcast name
Security options (None, WEP and WPA)
- hope this helps
