Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Clothes dryer shorts every time I turn it on

I assume this is electric dryer vs gas. You most likely have a electric heating element that has broken, and the wire is shorted to cabinet. If you can see inside element, you can often spot the broken wire. Don't try to fix element, you can't splice heating wire, it wont work. Buy a new element.

Sunbeam 1400w hair dryer doesn't blow out any heat

This is a hair dryer correct? Only two things can be the problem here.
1) a wire is disconnected or broken that provides power to the Heating element. Or 2) the heating Element is burned out. Do to UL regulations these hair dryers are not supposed to be repaired by anyone not having sufficient electrical knowledge or Factory training. A wire or a n Element burns out FOR A REASON, normally excessive heat causes failure of the unit. They are cheap enough to replace without being put out by extreme costs. Do yourself a favor buy a new one.

Dryer stops will not heat and the display keeps blinking and I can not get an error code.

This won't fix your problem, but should give you something to look at. Dryers usually have a heat sensor and a heat element. If the element is not broken, then the sensor may have failed. Sensing no heat from a broken element shuts it down. With a bad sensor, you will deliver no current to the heating element. The sensor should allow a current from you circuit tester to pass through it when cold. Be sure to unplug your maching before testing..

No heat in dryer, sparks coming from heater

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. The symptom you describe is typical of a broken heating element. The heating element on GE models comes as an assembly. Item 1215 of this link: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=208108&diagram_id=21357126#d21357126

Your dryer has a single element and I do not know of a single element "re-string" element kit for the single element dryers. You may be able to contact a local appliance parts & repair source to find the roughly $40.00 element only replacement part. As far as I know the "element only" has been dis-continued. Sadly this reults in a substantial cost to the consumer to purchase the whole assembly at $160 - $172.00. There may be new old stocks still on the shelf somewhere for the element only. I would at least make a few local appliance repair parts calls before ordering the assembly.
Just doing the math as to what you may expect to have the dryer repaired by a technician.
Costs:
Service call $50 - 75.00
Labor $100.00 (Average)
Part: $160.00 + shipping / tax
Your looking at nearly a $300.00 repair on the low end of costs and they only go up from there. (Just being VERY honest)
The can be additional problems that are found like a belt, idler, drum guide, or a blower fan. Often elements fail due to poor airflow that is caused by either blocked air flow or a broken blower fan.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Dryer wonT heat, but drum turn

You need a heating element replaced. It is not hard to fix, the heating element should only cost you about $20.00 and for the labor it might cost you $45.00 for the repair man to fix it. A total of about$65.00 maybe even less.

Electric dryer tumbles but does not dry clothes on any setting. dryer is only 4 yrs old.

Heating element has gone bad. You need to unplug unit. remove back, then find heating element and remove it. Look for what looks like broken springs, if found replace element. 99% of electric dryers not drying are the heating element. Cost around $50

Not heating up clothes not drying at all

If its an electric dryer, the heating element is probably broken. Very easy fix. Take off the big element cover on back of dryer If element is broken anywhere, replace it.

Dryer wont heat up it just blows cold air...whats the deal???????

Usually what fails in an electric dryer after years of good service that the heating element or elements fail and it often blows a fuse in the dryer when it does this. You need to remove covers and check the heating element with an ohm meter, Sometimes the element is visible and can be seen to be broken. If you can't see the break avoiding handling the element wire as the older it is the more fragile it gets. No point breaking one that isn't already broken. The thermostat that controls the drying temperature can also fail but that is less likely. Heating elements are like light bulbs. They have a fixed life and burn out after a number of hours. Don't forget to replace the fuse if it has one and its blown with the same size fuse.

Accessing the heating element

I have a ALE643RB Amana dryer and believe the heating element has went out because the dryer will not heat anymore. I have taken the control panel off the top and all the screws out on the back and the bottom edge, but am still not able to get the shell off the dryer. How do you get to the heating element?
