How to boot my dell vostro 1400 from usb CD/DVD Drive

Go into setup (F2 during initial boot screen) and change the Boot menu to reflect the CD/DVD drive being the first boot device. THEN place a bootable CD or DVD disk in the drive and reboot your computer. When asked if you want to boot from the disk, click any key immediately.

I have installed a SATA SH-S223C on a computer with Windows XP. But now when I try to boot the computer, it freezes on the Windows boot screen until I open the CD tray. Then it will continue on to the...

Do you have any CD in the tray, first would be to remove the disc if present as boot from CD would be first option in BIOS.
Get into the BIOS by pressing the appropriate key some systems it is the DEL key or F2. In bios select Advanced Bios Features.

Select Advanced Bios Features
Hard Disk boot priority,

Select "Bootable add in cards" with keyboard and keep pressing + until it is in the first location.

Set first boot device as Hard Disk and then save and exit BIOS.
F10 is shortcut to do this.

If you need to boot from CD next time just change first boot device to CDROM.

My laptop wont boot from cd

Hi, this does depend on your operating system, but to boot from CD you need to change your primary boot device. To do this boot into BIOS by preesing the F8 key during initial boot fase, then go to boot device, move your CD to top of list, save changes and exit. You can now boot from CD, but you must watch for this option which appears during initial boot and select by pressing any key.

How to install window xp

Hi, you will need to set up your hard drive first. During initial boot fase press the F8 key which will take you to the BIOS. Select boot device and change primary boot device to CD Rom. Insert XP Cd into drive, select save changes and reboot. Select boot from CD when this appears by pressing any key. Allow files to install, when this completes you will need to delete any previous operating system, partition hard drive and then format hard drive. Once this sompletes reboot, ignoring boot from CD this time and XP will start to install.

How to instal in pc

Hi, you haven't said for what operating system, but for XP. First you will need to change your primary boot device to CD Rom, to do this boot into BIOS by pressing the F1 key during initial boot fase, save changes after boot device has been selected, insert windows CD into drive and reboot. Select boot from CD, which appears during initial boot fase. Allow files to be installed, once finished you will need to delete operating system and repartition hard drive, then format hard drive. Once this completes PC will reboot, ignor boot from CD and allow PC to boot normally and it will start to install XP.

I have the restore dvd for emachines t2984 and neither the cd drive nor dvd drive will read the disk... is there a keyboard shortcut to restore it?

try booting into your bios for most commercial desktops your short cut key would be f8 if not try hitting delete on start up in all case you should be able to get into your bios when your in the bios make sure the cd is the first boot device not your hard drive. also key note make sure every thing in that list is off just make your cd rom the only thing to boot.

Delete key takes you into the BIOS Setting Setup that should be avoided if not sure of what it is all about, THOUGH it would be Ok to choose Load Default (Safe) Settings and then save and Exit (F10)? and Y or something like that.

F11 is a shortcut to a setting within BIOS Setup, it lets you choose Boot Device from List, normally you would try the Hard drive , as it is there that you want Windows to Load from unless of course you are trying to boot from a Windows CD/DVD then you would choose the CD or DVD from List....good luck

Windows vista home edition

Do you have the vista installation/restore disk that came with your computer?

First you need to backup everything thats important just to be safe (fotos/douments etc)

Then you need to make sure that the pc is set to boot from the cd drive first. Easy way to find out is to just put the disk in the drive and restart pc.

If it just starts normally then you have to enter the bios to change the boot order. This is normally done by pressing "delete" or "F2" just as computer boots.

If it is set to boot from cd then a message will appear "press any key to boot fron cd/dvd" and u push any key and it will start from the cd/dvd.

You will then need to choose the partition/hard drive that u want to install on which will be "c"

Then you will need to put in your vista seriel thats on a sticker on the pc.

It will then take a while to instal vista.

Once installed you will need to go to the manufactures website to download the various drivers for your computer model. To be safe do this before hand and save them to cd. Dont forget to make sure u have your modem drivers handy too!! :) No worries though if you are using a router.
