Question about Sony KP-51HW40 51" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Hello I've 2 problems 1: I see green curved line running from side to side, and the last line at the bottom of the screen is curve the opposite way then all the others green lines, the green lines stay there even when switching input/source 2: I see what seems to be like a tear(scratch), on what is behind the protective sheet of plastic. The tear isn't on the surface plastic it's under it. 60pounds dog might have jump on it trying to catch the cat on top thanx in advance

thanx it answer my question of fixing it myself.
any idea on how much it would cost(range price), polarisation readjusted and the 'layer' for entire screen?
I want to know if it's time to invest in a new tv

1 - the green light is the return beam from the green CRT - it should have been blocked; this happens when, because of old age, the polarisations of the tubes go off; the aged components must be replaced and the polarisations readjusted - a job for an experienced pro.
2 - the screen (if it's about it) has multiple layers - if one of them gets damaged then the entire screen is gone, it's impossible to fix it, it must be replaced. Find one here

The price for the first job, parts and labor included - around ~$200

The replacement screen with install - around $250
It's an old tv, nearing the end of its life - i wouldn't put so much money in it.

    Glad i could help.

You will need to replace your two convergence I.C.s.They are two large IC mounted on a large aluminum heat sink.Replace both, look for any burned resistors near them, replace those if needed, and readjust your convergence. Good Luck

Let me know if you need any further help

If the lines are slightly curved and stationary on about 2/3 of the screen its either the Blue CRT or the Blue CRT drive board which is having the problem.

Three curved lines have appeared approx. 6" up from the bottom of the screen. Is this a simple fix .... maybe as simple as replacing a bulb?

Are you saying that the whole picture is gone and all you see on the screen are 3 curved lines near the bottom, or is the picture there but 3 curved lines are over the picture, or is the picture there but the bottom of the picture has curved upeards?

Green horizontal lines across screen

try adjusting the green screen control. remove the front bottom panel of the tv by removing any screws holding it in place. gently pull of the front panel, there are gromets holding it in place, you will be able to gently remove the front, just make sure you get all those screws. now reove the small wodden or plastioc panel. now you will see the screen/focus assy. check to see of the screen controls are the top 3 or bottom 3. adjusted the center screen it's the green one, the other 2 are the red & blue. it is best to adjust in a dark room where the lines will show up easier. good luck
