Question about RTO Atwood DSI-RV Water Heater-6 Gallon

1 Answer

Have an Atwood 10 gallon gas/electric water heater. When on electric, water gets only luke warm. Would like to check element, but can't find it. Do I have to remove the water heater from the RV to access the rear of unit to find the element? I have a 39S Fleetwood. There appears to be no access to rear of unit with out removing it from RV. This seems a bit drastic just to check element

If it is electric, It has an element. I would suggest that before reinstalling the unit, you make accommodations to make the next experience a little easier. Add an access door to the rear of the unit

I have an Atwood GGA-8E about 6 months old was getting hot water but now the water is only luke warm, any adjustments?

There should be a temperature setting on the gas valve. It should be on top or front and have several settings normally vacation, warm and hot. Rotate dial towards hot setting to increase water temperature. Hope this helps. Thanks

My water heater on electric is not heating to full hot temp. it only seems to be warm, with periods of cool then back to warm. anyone have a answer for this?

Most electric water heaters have 2 heating elements. The symptoms you're describing indicate that one of the elements has burned out and needs to be replaced. If you want to try to change it yourself you can contact me back through Fixya.com and I can try to explain how to do it.

50 gallon electric heater not working after about 5 minutes in the shower the water gets cold and the rest of the house i do have 240 going to water heater thermostats goood element good

Some elements will read with a meter good until they heat up.

Hot water then going to ice cold top element is working and bottom bad. Luke warm water and then goes cold bottom element good and top element bad.

Elements and thermostats are not to exspensive to replace.

If you have power only two thing's left are the thermostat's and the elements.

Electric heating not working

Have you checked for additional switch, perhaps on rear of water heater on side of cover that wiring goes into for element. How far have you gone with it?

I have Atwood GC6aa-9e. Water isn't getting hot.

If you've checked at pressure relief valve ( careful, not to burn yourself just in case it is hot) by pulling lever and catching some water that comes out in a cup or whatever. If it feels hot out of there, check that by-pass isn't faulty. Not uncommon for valves to seize, and only partially open, or close, and end up mixing hot with cold.

Heating element

Is the water gas or electric? It could be both.So if it gas then the burner is inside the front cover. If it's a electric one then it would have two wires coming out of it.

You have a cracked dip tube. Part at hd is under 10 dollars. Remove and replace via cold water inlet side top of water heater. Degree of labor skill 1-10 = 8.
