Question about Watches

I Have a Wessex Impex multidrive gemstone tumbler model Wessex ATC 126. the large plastic cogwheel that drives the rotating spindle for the tumbler container has stripped the teeth from the cog wheel. The whole thing is 45mm diameter, 8mm thick at the outer edge, has a 4mm centre hole and the teeth are approx 3mm from tip to tip. It is normally fitted to its spindle by pressure against a nurled section on the spindle. I would be very grateful for information as to where I could obtain a replacement. I know the machine is old but apart from this cogwheel it still works and I want to use it!

Hi davejordan

Sugggest you to take your watch to your local jewellary shop.
If company retail outlet is nearby then you can take it to them also.
Actually the crystal needs to be changed.

I have a Samsonite suite case that has not been used for some time many a few years due to forgetting the combination code. Can you help as i am now in need of another suitcase and do not want to have to...

You can open combination locks by pulling on them and then rotating the rings until you feel the mechanism "give".

I'm not sure if this would be too successful with a suitcase but it is worth a try. Use a screwdriver to gently pull along the axis of the lock and rotate one furthest away from the catch.
Rotate it until it goes slack and then feel for the next one along and repeat.

Continue until all the tumblers have loosened, when the lock should open.

Some patience and practice needed.

Good luck!

Charlessmall: I have a downloaded copy of the Casio ATC 1200 watch manual. I misplaced the original and downloaded it several years ago when it was still available. E-mail me at toddkj@yahoo.com. I'll e-mail a copy to you.

Bought a gemstone globe-it's large (25" or so) diameter. Top layer of glass is broken in several areas. Can it be repaired?

Thanks for contacting Fixya.
You will have to figure out the name of the company who made the globe. There are several companies out there who make these. Then you can do a search on the internet to see if you can find the customer support for that company.
Best I can do for you!! Best regards.

My bag has a three number lock, how do I reset it so I can get it open?

I assume that the lock is a mechanical type.

With most combination locks you can pull on the ends and you will see a gap opening at one end.

While maintaining a gentle pull on both ends (using your 3rd and 4th fingers), rotate the tumbler that is furthest away from the gap. When the code number on that tumbler is is reached you should be able to feel a slight give in the mechanism.

Continue the same process with the second tumbler and then the third. The lock should then open.

I have a beautifule tanzanite ring and the gemstone appears to be dull (not shiny). How can I restore the shine to the surface of the gemstone?

5 minutes in an ultrasonic cleaner or 30 seconds under a steam jet may be all it needs. The dullness is usually caused by body oils attracting dust and dirt. If the stone is actually scuffed it can be polished. Most jewelry stores will clean your rings for free (to get you in the store and tempt you with new baubles) and can buff it with jeweler's rouge and a buffing wheel if needed. DIY cleaners and steamers are available and handy to have if you have regular use for one. My wife has both but prefers the steam jet.

Casio 1170 ATC-1200 watch needs to have batteries changed

I'll post in case somebody still needs this. This is the general procedure to switch the ATC 1200 from meters to feet. You can also switch the ATC 1200 (1170) from C to F. This is very helpful if you change the batteries and the watch gets reset to meters.

Also note, when you pull out the two batteries, you may not get the watch to come up. This is because of a race condition when the watch gets power. To fix this, look for the AC mark on the inside of the watch. Under this marking, in a little space to the left, are two copper pads. Short this out with a small screw driver to get the watch to ground zero.

To fix the Metric measurements:

1. Go to the home screen on the watch. This is when the the 3 letter abbr for the day is at the top. Also, if you cycle the mode button, it is the screen where the final beep is "high."

2. Then press the "memory" button, which will take the home display to the data screen. This shows current time, pressure and temperature.

3. Hold down the adjust button, until the set screen comes up.

4. Tab the mode/select button on the watch until you get a flashing C. Then press the memory button to toggle to F.

You can adjust all the measurements from this screen.

Crystals framing my Haurex watch face are falling out.

Hi, im a jeweller myself. The problem with jewellers and crystals is simple. Its a lot of work to replace something that doesnt cost a lot to buy (the crystals, not the watch). Swarovski are a commonly known producer of crystals, but you will probably find that simulation gemstones such as Cubic Zirconia are commonly used in newer watches.

I specialise in gemstone setting, and can also work with simulation stones and crystals, but it takes much longer to reset stones into a stainless steel watch case than into gold or platinum so the labour costs are much higher.

It depends how much the watch is worth as to how much you spend on repairs.

Hope this helps
