Question about GE Washing Machines

Open Question

GERH410H1WW front end loader The problem: only a wee bit of water enters when starting and every so often a wee bit (1/2 cup about) more enters. The washer drum does not tumble, there is hardly any water coming in. Where can we get a repair manual? My husband is retired from GE, after working there for 30 years as a toolmaker. He can do the repair himself, but would need a repair manual. Thank you for any help you can give. Jan VanKleef (my husband)

I removed the three screws, and lower cover cleaned the few pennies, screws and nasty gunk build up from the filter. The wash machine seems to function as it did prior to the clogged issue. Thank you everyone !!!

SOURCE: Kenmore front loader not draining with a clicking noise

Check your drain pump reservoir for any possible obstructions. That may be the source of the clicking noise. Probably something stuck in the pump impeller. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385844-checking_drain_pump_kenmore_elite_front

If clearing the drain pump does not resolve the problem, you may have a damaged drain pump. If they do not pump at the correct volume, the washer will not complete a wash cycle. If this is the case, you will need to replace it. You can find replacements at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
appliancepartspros.com
pcappliancerepair.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites offer great service and have competitive pricing, so shop all of the for the best deals.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: The washer leaves water remaining in drum after

Hello

Check the drain tube,it needs to be 30 inches above the floor.

Also if the drain tube from the washer is too far into the drain the washer will not drain completly. The drain tube should be 1 inch into the wall drain.

Also check for kinks or obstructions in the washer drain tube.

For low water volume - or "Trickling" effect...

1. Turn off the water supply to both hoses.
2. Remove hoses (one at a time so you don't get them confused)
3. On the washer side - look for a removeable screen inside wher you just removed the hose.
4. Using a small screwdriver - pop out the screen and reverse-flush it/clean it. It will likely be full of sediment and calcium deposits from your pipes.
5. Replace the inlet screens.
6. Re-fit the hose to the machine.
7. Turn on water supply valves.
8. re-try.

What lime scale / detergent remover can be used for regular cleaning of my front loader.

Front-loading washing machines are energy efficient and use less detergent than top-loaders, but they sometimes have a tendency to harbor mold and unpleasant smells. By giving your washing machine a quick clean once a month, you'll keep your front-loader fresh, which means cleaner clothes, too. This eco-friendly method doesn't use bleach, costs only pennies to make, and comes together with ingredients you already have on hand.
What You'll Need:
  • 2 cups vinegar
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Scrub sponge
Directions:
  1. Start by mixing together the baking soda and water in a small bowl. This is going to be the "detergent" for cleaning the washing machine. Pour the vinegar into a measuring cup and head over to your washing machine.
  2. Add the baking soda mixture to the detergent container of your machine and pour the vinegar into the drum. Set your washer to normal load at the hottest water setting. Close the door and start the machine, letting it do all the hard work for you. The baking soda and vinegar naturally break up mineral deposits and any mold growth while cleaning and refreshing your washing machine.
  3. Use a clean scrubber to rub around the opening of the washing machine, removing stubborn mold or residue. Wipe clean with fresh water.
  4. Your washing machine is sparkling clean and ready to do a load of laundry! Give your front-loader a cleaning once a month to keep your clothes smelling fresh and your machine working in tip-top condition.

My Kenmore Elite show SUD on the display but is still working. Should I clear it or is there something wrong with it?

you're using to much detergent and that's the number one killer of the front loaders.the extra detergent eats at the rear spider gear, you'll know when it happens, when it goes into spin it bangs all around loudly.you should be using 1/4 cup of detergent and it should be h.e. detergent.fill it with water, run it for a bit and drain it to get out the extra detergent.the pump can't pump out suds so the washer will start filling and draining to try to get out the suds.just cut back on the detergent and you'll be fine.i think you press pause/cancel twice to clear it

Hi, my machine has a bit of a smell. What do you suggest I run through it to take the smell away? thanks - Gina

Hi Gina, W/D here.

I'm guessing that you mean a front loader. They have a terrible reputation for being smelly over time, due to the design if the bellows seal, but this will work for a front loader, too.

1. Here's what we do: When that smell starts, we put one cup of bleach directly into the empty machine, and fill all of the dispenser cups with bleach.. Using a bleach/water solution, we wipe down the bellows seal liberally(between the door and the tub), and pour the remainder into the tub. We then run the hottest, longest cycle that we have available (for us, it is the "sanitary" cycle. This de-funks the washer. To prevent the rebuild up of the musty smell, we leave the door cracked open when not in use, allowing it to stay somewhat air-dried, and this system works quite well, at least for us.
2. You can purchase cleaners at Lowe's/similar, and we have, but they don't seem to work any better that described above.
3. For the most seriously stinkey washers, you can remove and clean the trap, but this is a rather lengthy procedure. Usually, this isn't required.

Try #1, and post back if this doesn't do the trick.

Best regards, --W/D--

Water in the detergent cup

Yes. There will be a bit of water in the tray. The best thing to do is empty the water out either into the washer or a sink. Then leave the tray drawer open as well as the washer door open. Mold can develop on front load washers just like it can with top loaders. Leaving the drawer and door open to dry will help to prevent this.

take the drain hose at the back and lower it so its beneath the water level in the drum--the water should flow out--or else open the filter at the front--but thats a bit messy

Which is better a top loader or front loader washing machine?

Front Loading Washing Machine: Fully automatic.
1. Better washing than toploading as technologically proofed.
2. No extra effort except putting cloths and detergent inside.
3. No need to observe in between while washing. Start and forgot. You can go market and come back.
4. No issue if electricity or water went out during washing.
4. Take more water compare to toploading semi-automatic.
5. You can not open it once it started.

Top Loading Washing Machine: Semi
1. Save water and detergent.
2. Need extra effort to put the cloth from one box to another.

Mildew smell in towels after washing. Tried

Hi,
Everything that you did was good and right. Front loaders have a tendence to harbor mold and mildewy smells by the nature of their design. Cleaning the pump strainer, and repeating the steps that you took woll take care of the problem. The pump strainer is located between the drum and the pump, behind the kick panel of the washer. The strainer is connected to the drum with a rubber hose. Open and clean the strainer. While it is open, peer up into the pump, and see if you can see any other debris in there. Remove al that you can, and reassemble the strainer. Wipe down the seal faces at the door with a solution of bleachy/soapy water, and run a 'sanitary' load with bleach in all dispenser cups. Dump 1 cup of bleach also into the tub prior to starting the empty load. Use the hottest water setting. After the cycle ends, run another empty load to flush all traces of the bleach from the system. This should take care of the issue.

Best regards, --W/D--
