I do not think there is a switch, however some of the T40's came without a wireless card installed, but was optional. Here are the part numbers if you need them to order one. 39T0071
39T0077
93P3483
91P7301

All from IBM

Hi

This can be done in one of 2 ways

1) there may be a wirless button on your laptop, generally on the front or on the side simply slide this in the opposite direction

2) press the FN key and the key with a radio mast type symbol or sattelite type symbol on there with the IBM's generally it is F5

Wireless radio control problem

Try going into the Device Manager and making sure the Wireless Adapter is enabled. Click Start > Control Panel > System. Click the Hardware tab then click the Device Manager button. Now click the Plus [+] next to Network adapters then double-click the wireless adapter which is probably the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection which will open the Properties dialog. Ensure the Device status reads, "This device is working properly" and Device usage shows "Use this device (enable)." If either the Device status or Device usage shows anything other than what is shown above, first try to change the Device usage, which should change the Device status. Now try again to use your wireless adapter. You might need to press Fn + F5 to turn the device on.
