Very un-likely that you have a timer problem. Check for broken belt (switch on tension assembly cuts power to motor) a door switch, or possibly a non-resettable drum thermostat out, due to a long or restricted vent.

My dryer is not turning on..I hear a click as though it is trying to but nothing happens

I'm guessing your hearing the timer making noise...if its the timer making noise you need a multi-meter to check the thermal fuse and links.

There is a long fuse that can go bad and cause the motor not to start. The thermal fuse is behind the back panel. remove panel and check fuse's

Wont start door shut tight can heat timer drum lite on when door open

If you can hear the motor running with door is closed and the dryer is turned on, the the belt that turns the drum is likely off the drum or broken.

If you cannot hear the anything when the door is closed and the dryer is turned on, then the door switch is likely defective.

The other more unlikely causes are either the Timer or Switch that starts the dryer is defective.

Hot Point Dryer does not come on but you can hear the noise by the start knob like a low buzz

Feel the outer cover at rear of the dryer at the bottom,if it starts to feel warm then the heater is working, the buzzing noise could be the motor trying to start, or noise from the relay, if the heater does not come on then could be timer faulty or faulty start relay. It is a a process of elmination.

My dryer doens't start up

Depends on if you can hear any noise when you hit the start button or turn the knob. If there is a hum or some sound then could be belt or motor problems. If there is no sound dead, then you are checking the right area, there are kill switches in different places on dryers. one is like you checked the door switch, and another may be in back when you open the cover to check. Maybe fallen out of place. These sw. are for your safety and sometimes they malfunction. Hope this help!
