Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I have a brand new Epson C120 printer. I have it plugged in to a triple tap outlet adapter. I also have a brother printer plugged into the same adapter. Yesterday i plugged a vacuum cleaner into the adapter as well. This morning i tried to use my printer but kept getting an offline message on my computer. The green power light was on so i tried to turn the computer off and back on. It will not power back on. Is it possible i fired something with the vacuum cleaner? ay help would be appreciated.

It's not so very clear about your problem. I am not sure whether it the problem with your printer or with the computer that doesn't power back. In the first part of your query, it seems your printer is having a problem, but when we go down to the 5th line "The green power light was on so i tried to turn the computer off and back on. It will not power back on" I got confused with it.

If it's the printer, before you do anything with it, remove the cable usb cable from the computer and disconnect it from the printer. Now unplug the power cord from the printer, and connect it (the Dc adapter and the printer) to another socket (only to check that the outlet adapter is not the problem). If it works and power on on with another socket box, then the problem is with the "triple tab outlet adapter". It might have burnt out or have got overheated when you did connect the vacuum cleaner. Power jack/Socket/(Triple Adapter) easily gets damaged and burnt when a high power electric appliance is connected. It could be loose connection or if not would have totally burnt, you'll not be able to use/connect to the adapter unless you replace it.
But if in case the printer doesn't work/power on even with another Mains Outlet, then verify that the AC adapter (printer's adapter) is turned on. You'll be able to see this from the power led light indicator.

Let me know after you are done.

Good luck.

Thanks for the clarification. Well, is it possible to use another power cord? (if you can borrow it from someone or if you have extra power cable). Since this power supply unit (adapter and cord) is the main part that plays the power function, we have to start from this. If after it's not successful, you'll need to check the power supply unit on the printer but it's not easy and will be tough if you don't have the tools like screwdriver, soldering iron, soldering paste, soldering wire etc..etc..

Sorry, I skipped one important query, is there led light on the printer adapter? or is it directly connected to the Mains socket?.

First find/get another power adapter, then we'll be able to narrow down to the nearest suspect without wasting time.

I am sorry to say that it must be the power supply unit of the printer (small circuit board inside the printer). It's possible to be replaced or repaired by only authorized technician. I would recommend you to contact the Service Center or the dealer where you purchased it. If it's under warranty, you'll get a replacement or they'll repair it for your free or charge (conditions apply). You can contact epson (technical issues). Open this link (click here) to directly contact Epson for technical support for your printer (only for your printer, there are many categories, this is particularly only for Epson Stylus C120 ). Tell them your problem and they'll direct you to the nearest service center or they may also send their technician to inspect the Machine.

I wish you all the best.

Epson c120 thinks black ink cartidges are empty.. but i just got new ones.. . and i suspect the last ones weren't empty either :( . please help!

Make sure the contacts where the ink cartridge plugs in are clean inside the printer. There may be something stuck in there. Also make sure the cartridge is fully seated in its cradle in the printer.

No power to epson 1280

Well, first things first I guess:

  1. Try the printer in a different outlet (other side of room, or similar, not same power Jack)
    1. If you have power here, your issue is likely the outlet, not the printer.
  2. If the power cord has an "on" LED, check to see if it is lit up while plugged in.
    1. If you have an LED with no light while it is plugged in, you are looking at a power adapter that is no longer working
  3. If there is no "on" LED to check, your next best bet is to take your printer and power cord to a store that sells printers, and ask if you can "try" a new chord before buying it. (most stores will allow this to keep customers happy)
  4. You may also want to check with the manufacturer if the chord is found to be bad, as some will send replacements free of charge.
  5. The last option is that there is an issue inside the printer. This is not likely, though it is possible. Most printers have an external power adapter that keeps any power issue outside of the printer, but I can't tell from the epson site if this printer has one or not. (It would be a black box between the plug and printer.)
    1. This can also be checked by "testing" a new chord at a store. New chord, still no power, internal issue.
      1. If this is the case you will want to contact Epson if the unit is still under warranty.
-Hope this helps.
