Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I have a Dell XPS M1530. The computer slid off a surface and fell about 1.5 feet. The bottom half of my screen now has color with white horizontal lines running through it, but no clear picture. It looks like printing something when the ink cartridge is running out. My copmuter screen will still give me a full picture on an external screen with HDMI cable. Please help.

If you EVER have lines or white on part of the screen, especially from one side of the screen to the other, it is the LCD itself (the part between all the covers and glass and screens inside the screen itself) that is failing. Usually this is from impact, where something caused too much pressure to the LCD elements themselves, somewhere on the screen (such as a book on top of the laptop, or impact with a drop, etc). Often the SCREEN itself won't show the break, but inside the screen is the LCD element, sandwiched between a few layers of plastic of various thicknesses and for different purposes.

Unfortunately, the ONLY solution is to replace the screen. The easiest way is to replace the WHOLE LCD screen itself (meaning, don't bother disassembling the LCD, you'll need the core LCD itself, which means you'll have to find a replacement screen, which will already be working, or else it would be just like the one you're fixing, or similar problems)!

Hope that helps

p.s. I've taken them apart for months and replaced impossible to find ones, and it's always easier to simply buy a replacement LCD screen and use that- don't bother trying to fix it!

Laptop Screen Freezes and turns black When Adjusted angle.

It is possible that the video cable is chafing in the point where it passes through the hinge assembly. Try reseating the video cable, if that doesn't help, the replacing the LCD cable assembly is the likely fix.

Need master password for dell xps m1530. Or info on how to bypass power on password.

If you boot your computer up in "safe mode" in either windows xp or vista you should see a logon screen with an account called "Administrator" log on with this account and you have full authority to change any account password on the computer.
