1) How to you open the cpu case to get to the fan, etc. 2) My fan has started making noises......can it be cleaned - or is it likely to need replacement?

  1. Shut down your Dell desktop computer.

  2. Remove all of the power and peripheral cables from your computer. There should be no cables connected to your computer when you attempt to remove the cover and open the case.

  3. Watch for the green "Power" indicator light to dim. This light is on the back of the case near where the power cable plugs in. Your computer will hold onto an excess amount of energy for a few seconds after it is unplugged. You don't want to open your Dell computer case while this light is still lit.

  4. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the side of your Dell desktop computer's case. Set the screws aside.

  5. Use your hands to pull up on the side of the case, separating it from the base of the computer. This will allow you to access the inside of your Dell desktop computer.

What voltage and polarity do the ACS-5 speakers require?

Computers always use DC voltage. Computer speakers receive DC voltage from the computer.
DC voltage has a Positive and Negative polarity.

In the power jack of the speaker, the Center pin is the Positive connection. The outer shell is the Negative connection.

Center hole of the DC adapter plug - Positive.
Outer shell of the DC adapter plug - Negative

Voltage 5 Volts DC.

In case you need it,

My Dell Dimension C521 computer is suddenly making a lot of constant noise. Would like to know how to open the case so that I will be able to use air can on the fans

Looks fairly simple from here, but you never know. On the back of the unit and on the right hand side as you sit looking at the back of the unit, you will see 1-4 screws sitting in tabs that connect to the outer case.

Take these screws out and put them aside. Now the case should slide off and judging by the looks of it your case will slide to the rear. You may have to take a small screwdriver and pry the case a little bit at the front to get the case to move. If it won't move look for more screws on the outer edge of the case and remove these.

I may be wrong but i think just the one side comes off but it may be that the whole case will slide back and then come off, but this should get you started.

Last thing SHUT THE POWER OFF TO THE COMPUTER while you are poking around in there. Hope this helps.

I need to know how to get into my computer to install a new ethernet port- I can't figure out how to remove the outer shell since all the screws are on the inside.

There are fasteners somewhere ... may be screws, may be latches. Look Closely

Your computer didnt come with a ethernet port? and you are now adding a PCI device?

How do I get the side off a dell xps200 to blow air on noisy fan?

This depends on the case design Dell uses for that model. If it is the **** shell design then there should be a button on the top and bottom of the case that must be pushed together to release the side. While depressed you would swing the side out but it never comes off, just opens outward. If it is a standard case then there should be one or two screws or thumbscrews on the outer edge of the removable side on the back. These would need removed and then the side would slide off. Hope these help.

Removing outer casing

If it is a desktop, there should be two thumbscrews in the back. Remove them and slide the side off.

If it is a laptop, then the RAM is probably underneath a cover plate on the bottom of the computer. Remove the screw and the cover should pop open.

DJ Ditty Battery?

Battery is not replaceable on this unit. Removing the outer casing will just cause components to fall out - you will end up destroying the player.
