Question about GE GSL25JFPBS Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

We have a Jenn-Air JBL2286KES2 bottom freezer fridge that is starting to leak water onto the floor. It seems that the back of the freezer wall is starting to build up a layer of ice at the bottom left. Also the ice maker is on that side and the ice in the tray was one big brick. Fridge and freezer both seem to work, but wondering if these are symptoms of a more serious problem. The fridge just turned one year old 2 weeks ago.

Had the repair guy in today and it was a drainage problem. Evidently there is a tiny hole where water is supposed to go down when it defrosts and it must have gotten clogged with some food particles. The result is that as the defrost it works, the wanter does not have anywhere to go and leaks down back of the freezer compartment and eventually onto the floor in front of the fridge. Repair guy said it is fairly common and they should have put a screen or something above the hole to stop this from happening. Not sure if this is a good idea, but will experiment if this happens again after the warranty expires.

    Thanks Heatman,

That's a good idea! I will try the wire trick to make sure the drain does not freeze up again, regardless of if some debris gets down into the hole.

Jenn-air JFC2089HEP French door Fridge with bottom drawer freezer. Water is leaking on to my floor. I checked all the external connections at the solenoids / water into filter water / water out of...

one of the plastic wtaer lines could be cracked, when the ice maker fills the water line could be cracked and leak out when it's filling.also it looks like you have a water dispenser in your machine,go in the back with the bottom panel removed and have someone fill a cup of water and check the lines while it's filling.where does it look like the water is leaking from?is there ice in the bottom of the freezer floor?the drain could be blocked.when the machine goes into defrost if the drain is blocked the water will leak out onto the floor of the freezer and then out onto the floor,if that's ok i'd have to say it will be one of the plastic lines,it gets hot in there, have you been cleaning the condenser coil?that should be vaced out at least once a year, this is how the heat escapes from the machineif the coil is clogged with lint and dust it will run hotter than normal and this also makes the plastic lines brittle.hope this helps and change the water filter every 6 months.

Lately there is a pool of water forming under and in front of the refrigerator . what can we do. It is a side by side Jennair?

The water is from the melted frost of the defrost cycle. The drain at the bottom of the back wall of the freezer is blocked so instead of the water draining into the pan where it will evaperate,it's pooling on the freezer floor and freezing, in many case when the floor indent is full the water will leak onto the floor.By pulling the refrigerator out from the wall, there will be a tube behind the service panel on the right side when looking at it from the rear, that tube can be removed and cleared, then clear the nozzle it connects to inside the freezer.

I hope this helps you to stop the leak,
Gene

I have a jenn air side by side and water seems to be leaking near the front left corner area at random times and when it does leak it is a slow drip.... thoughts?

Look in the freezer floor to see if you have ice built up and over flowing into the floor. If so you have a clogged drain line which is located in the freezer behind the lower basket in the litttle gap at the bottom of the back wall. If you don't have that, the water line that runs to the water in the door is located at the front left side as well and you can get to that by pulling off the bottom piece of plastic that runs along the bottom of the whole machine.

Ice builds up in bottom of freezer and water leaks onto floor

Sounds like the evaporator drain duct has either blocked or frozen. When the appliance goes into its defrost cycle the water has no where to go apart from the floor of the freezer cavity. When the appliance starts again the water freezes until the cycle starts again.

Water leaking out from the inside bottom Jenn Air JRSD245L

It sounds from what you described is a clogged drain line pull the bottom drawer out and look at the bottom of the back wall. see if the drain is backed up with ice if so use the back end of a rubber handle screwdriver and lightly tap the ice until it breaks up clean up the best you can around the drain and pour some hot soapy water down until to you hear it going into the drain pan.. a cup will do....>>the water comes each time the unit goes into defrost as the heaters melt the frost build up on the evaprator it melts and is suppose to go down the drain but if it is blocked then it forms at the bottom of the freezer floor..let me know if you still need the wiring diagram I can email it to you. Hope this fixes YA !

Jenn-Air freezer leak

Apparently it is the drain behind the freezer panel on the inside and it is blocked. It needs to be unblocked and cleaned. You remove the food and the rear panel on the inside of the freezer. With a hair dryer (carefully) remove all ice build up and then unblock the drain line going to the pan under the refrigerator. The drain line can be cleaned with bi-carb and hot water (not boiling).
