I do have electronic knowledge, and i am looking at the schematics on the tv and i do not see a high tension module for the crts. I see red/green/blue/svm panel, focus combo, and interface panel. Can you explain where I might locate these things to test?

The tv has a fault in it - either in the high tension module for the CRT's or in the final video circuits. To find precisely which you must open the tv and test it. Beware, the very high tension inside is dangerous, if you don't have at least basic electronics knowledge then it's time for a repairman.

SVM - Scan Velocity Modulation - it's the board that allows different scanning frequencies, for different resolutions. You can check there if the module is powered and if the scanning frequencies are generated.

The focus board is the one that controls the sharpness of the image by modifying the voltage on the acceleration grille from the CRT's . No connection to your problem.
The interface panel is the board with the buttons on the case - no connection with your problem.
This tv generates the image using 3 Cathode Ray Tubes. For them to work they need a very high tension - over 24 000 volts. Look at the tv board; on it you will see a black rectangular transformer placed vertically; from it 3 red wires go to the tubes - this is the high tension transformer, easy to locate on the schematic. Find the transistor that is powering it and check it for integrity and if it receives power from the source.

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.
In some models of LCD TVS; the backlight inverter will be a part of the panel itself, and will be a built-in type inside the LCD panel. If so, it can't be replaced. In this case; a panel replacement is the only repair.

TV turns itself off after a few seconds, no picture at all

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps
